Rahul Gandhi is remarkably intelligent, humble, and realistic. And has the love of a Buddhist monk who has attained Nirvana, to go with these great qualities.
In many ways he is a lone warrior. As much as I praise MK Stalin, I am also aware that Stalin is ably supported by his vigilant and ideologically unrelenting partymen. Stalin is able to combine his maturity, wisdom and foresight, with the bravery and warrior spirit of the DMK cadres. That makes the DMK a nearly untouchable force.
Rahul Gandhi does not have that advantage. His partymen are his biggest weakness. Many of them are clueless hangers-on. His democratic disposition, while absolutely right, doesn't yield him immediate benefits. My only hope is that it shouldn't affect his own rationality, because lack of results in the short term is naturally irritating to most people, and they resort to quick fixes. I hope that doesn't happen to the admirably courageous RG.
In any case, the ultimate truth in any democracy is that the people get the government they deserve. If BJP rules India today, it is only because the quality of our people is such that they deserve only the BJP and nothing better at this point in time. Modi is the PM today, because people chose him.
If tomorrow shit became a famous eatable across the country, it wouldn't mean that shit has suddenly become incredibly nutritious. It would only mean that people have gone nuts. That's the state of affairs in the country today.
A good leader can only talk sense in a democracy. Unfailingly and always and everywhere. That's what Rahul does. It is up to the people to understand wise counsel when offered, and make judicious choices. If they are stupid enough to fall for pernicious narratives that have the potential to destroy their well-being and eventually break the nation, well, that's exactly what they will likely get in the end.
Because, that is exactly what they deserve.
Can't complain, bro! Caveat Emptor!
