Ground breaking work…53 years later, we’re still working to achieve some of its goals.
#OnThisDay in #firefighter history: The National Commission of Fire Prevention & Control’s America Burning Report (1973) called for increased fire prevention & fire safety education efforts to reduce U.S. fire loss. Actions taken included the formation of the @USfire in 1974.

FF cancer awareness month may have ended, but the work doesn’t stop. Increase your awareness of heart health during February.
📊 DID YOU KNOW? Cardiovascular disease causes 45% of LODDs among firefighters. Heart attacks during or shortly after fire suppression operations are the leading cause. This month: screening matters, and so does documenting exposures with #ExposureTracker. i-psdi.org/exposure

Always appreciate spending time with Aaron and the @FireRescue1 family. If you haven’t downloaded the new version of @TheIPSDI Exposure Tracker, no better time than NOW
Tracking exposures, traumatic calls, hazmat incidents and unique situations creates a personal record that protects you long after the call ends trib.al/MSxKDuQ

On the 24th annvsry of 9/11, this quote sticks and recalls the courage shown and the legacy that must be honored. 'I can think of no more stirring symbol of man's humanity to man than a fire engine. They rush to the rescue of any human being, and count not the cost.' Vonnegut,'01

For the 7 people who follow me but not @FFBehavior read and digest this. On top of being spot on, I’d offer that it goes well past (anti) social media. Open your mind, challenge what you hear, choose carefully who you permit to influence your fire service work.
The ‘Taylor Swift Effect’ and Fire Service Personalities on Social Media The challenge for the profession is to ensure the loudest voices online are not just popular but credible, responsible, and committed to firefighter safety. data-not-drama.com/2025/09/0…

Dr Gist is one of the OG fire service voices on behavioral health and was behind much of @NFFF_News and @1stresponderctr BHP work. He influenced/mentored me and countless others on proper fire service research. His time with KCMO has ended, but his fire service impact will endure
**Honoring Dr. Richard Gist: A Lifetime of Service** At 75, Dr. Richard Gist retires after decades of transforming firefighter health and safety. As KCFD’s first Deputy Director for Health & Safety, his leadership and research have saved countless lives, promoting mental health and prevention nationwide. As our Managing Director Chief Frank Leeb said, “Dr. Gist has not only changed policies—he's changed lives.” Though retiring from KCFD, he’ll continue his impactful work with organizations like FRCE. Thank you, Dr. Gist, for your unparalleled dedication and lasting legacy. 🔗: firehouse.com/rescue/hazardo…

Great close out of @NFFF_News Summit. Much had been accomplished in 20 years, yet more remains.
“We want to prevent the preventable...Which would you rather plan? A line of duty death funeral, or a retirement party?" @IPSDIJohn said during the @NFFF_News #Firefighter Life Safety Summit report out to the group this morning. #flss2024 #firehero
