#OnThisDay in #firefighter history: The National Commission of Fire Prevention & Control’s America Burning Report (1973) called for increased fire prevention & fire safety education efforts to reduce U.S. fire loss.
Actions taken included the formation of the @USfire in 1974.

Dr Gist is one of the OG fire service voices on behavioral health and was behind much of @NFFF_News and @1stresponderctr BHP work. He influenced/mentored me and countless others on proper fire service research. His time with KCMO has ended, but his fire service impact will endure

At 75, Dr. Richard Gist retires after decades of transforming firefighter health and safety. As KCFD’s first Deputy Director for Health & Safety, his leadership and research have saved countless lives, promoting mental health and prevention nationwide.
