Nothing is more fragile for a minority than reliance on protection from foreign powers (Maronites w/France, Orthodox w/Russia, Shiites w/Iran, Maghrebi Jews w/France).
It prevents local integration & the minoriry will be left hanging when inevitably dumped by the foreign power.

In South Africa, white settlers regularly cited the fear that if Black South Africans were given equality “the next thing they’d do is come into our homes and kill us in our beds.”
This line is tired colonial anxiety and amounts to nothing more than projection.

I was supposed to be in Gaza at Israa University soon, giving a keynote on teaching cryptocurrency, but I have lost touch with the conference organizers who are at this point are possibly murdered by the indiscriminate bombings by the Israeli military.

I stuck the 🇵🇸 flag outside my car window the whole time while my brother drove us to Toronto last night. Suddenly, a white man in the car next to us rolled down his window to talk. I was scared only for him to yell "I'm going to the protest too! Follow me, I'll get you parking."
