Dr. I.J. Singh - 12 May 2026 Sikh Research Institute (SikhRI) fondly remembers Dr. Inder Jit “IJ” Singh, who departed the earth on 12 May 2026. Dr. Singh brought wisdom, warmth, and guidance to every space he entered. He had a rare gift for framing difficult conversations in meaningful ways. During SikhRI’s formative years, his guidance strengthened the organization in important ways. He co-authored the Sikhi: Faith & Followers booklet, published reflections through SikhRI, represented the organization at public forums, and served as a reviewer for the Sojhi curriculum. As a Sidak facilitator, he deeply valued young people and encouraged them to think deeply, question honestly, and engage Sikhi thoughtfully. On his akal chalana (journey towards the 1-Timeless), we join his wife, Neena Kaur, along with family, friends, and loved ones in ardas (supplication). May they find strength in Hukam (1’s Command) and solace in remembrance and kirtan (singing 1’s Praise). SikhRI’s Creative Director, Inni Kaur (@InniKaur) , remembers IJ in “So, What do you think?” - linkedin.com/feed/update/ur… We remember him with gratitude for his guidance and commitment to meaningful Sikh conversation. — Sikh Research Institute

"Vaisakhi for a Sikh will always be about the Vaisakhi of 1699 with the 10th Patshah, the Tenth Sovereign. And that’s the way this extraordinary moment in Sikh history has been passed down through the centuries. The historic Vaisakhi of 1699 is very much a part of my consciousness. I’m convinced it is a part of the Sikh DNA. This is one day that, no matter where a Sikh is, the greatest effort will be made to visit a gurduara (Sikh place of learning), be part of the sangat (congregation), and celebrate." This Sabad is by Sheikh Farid (1173-1265) and is set in Rag Asa, a devotional musical framework. The essence of the composition lies in its contemplation of contrasting states. The Sabad delves into a juxtaposition between individuals immersed in Love and those untouched by it. Similarly, it parallels those saturated with Love and those lacking in it. Explore the legendary love stories of Panjab—tales of devotion, longing, and defiance that transcend time and social boundaries. This piece delves into the epic romances of Laila-Majnun, Sasi-Punu, Sohni-Mahival, and Hir-Ranjha, revealing their sacrifices and the depth of their love. These stories are then woven into a reflection on divine love, drawing on Bhai Gurdas’s verse to illuminate the path of surrender and devotion. This composition by Bhagat Ravidas is in Rag Gauri Bairagan, a musical mode sung in the morning. It is a rag (musical measure) of sadness, separation, and longing. Bhagat Ravidas uses the trader as a metaphor and says, “I am a trader of the Charmer-Divine. Now everything is flowing naturally within me. I have now acquired the wealth of Nam-divine virtues while the worldly people have acquired and live with the poisons.” Explore the full Sabad Reflection at: social.sikhri.org/trader-cha… @InniKaur #SabadoftheWeek #Sikhi #Shabad #GuruGranthSahib #GuruGranthSahibji #SikhHistory #Wisdom #SabadReflection

In this poem by Bhai Vir Singh, the yearning is directed toward Guru Gobind Singh Sahib—not as an idea to be understood, but as a presence to be seen. The poem reminds us that a glimpse of the Beloved is not demanded. It is received when the inner capacity to see has been formed.
