Pleased to have collaborated on the software tool at interva.net/crms, that is embedded in this @ResolveTSL @VitalStrat @WHO @BloombergDotOrg @AfricaCDC @eca_official @unescap @CDCFound technical package for rapid #COVID19 mortality surveillance

Replying to @DrTomFrieden
At @ResolveTSL and @VitalStrat, we worked with @WHO and other partners, including @BloombergDotOrg, @AfricaCDC, @eca_official, @unescap, and @CDCFound on a technical package to help governments use existing CRVS systems to rapidly assess deaths. bit.ly/2ZviajL

We've recently released a technical update, InterVA-5.1, which as always is available at interva.net The concepts and the software remain unchanged, but there are some minor adjustments and corrections to the knowledge base and the documentation.

Thanks Carla - we hope it will be widely used, specially as the marginal cost when using @InterVA -5 is zero!
A really important piece of work that helps broaden VA beyond the analysis of medical causes to death to include underlying sociocontextual and health system circumstances.

What we die from matters - and half of global #deaths are not registered. @WHO sets standards for #verbal_autopsy and the latest @InterVA-5 software can process causes of death. Here's the details and resources in @BMCMedicine rdcu.be/bFdxY

One of the most fundamental questions in #globalhealth - what do people die from? For most deaths we do not know the answer but developments in #verbal_autopsy are helping to fill this data gap. Proud to be part of this international scientific collaboration led by @PeterByass

Great thread summarising the problem of uncounted deaths and the methods being used to fill the data gap for better health planning and goal monitoring in the world's poorest settings #SDGs #globalhealth
Around 50% of deaths in the world aren't documented according to @WHO, mostly in LMICs, and #verbal_autopsy (VA interviews with witnesses of deaths) is a useful method for tackling this. Cause of death data are important for planning health services.

The @InterVA-5 model processes all the @WHO VA cause categories across all age groups, so a complete picture of deaths in a population can be produced. This is useful for planners at local, national and global levels, including @UN #SDG targets. media.springernature.com/ful…

Standards for VA are set by @WHO but software for processing the data into causes of death are also needed. Just out @BMCMedicine are details and resources for the @InterVA-5 model that does this systematically and consistently rdcu.be/bFdxY
