I'm looking forward to this. (Something tells me we'll be seeking parallels between high-end translation services and luxury hospitality services.)

Who recognizes these lyrics? Пробуем мы понять, Как может New York Times влиять. Являешься ты братом или может быть ты мама, Но будешь ты жить, будешь ты жить. Видишь, город рушится и все вокруг трясутся, Но будем мы жить, будем мы жить. Ха, ха, ха, ха, будем мы жить, будем мы жи

Presenting at the American Translators Association annual meeting in Miami. It was a pleasure to share with ATA attendees aspects of “Cultural Interference in Spanish-English Legal Translation” as reflected in Spanish Criminal Procedure. #ata64

Max Reger's reaction to a bad review: Ich sitze hier im kleinsten Raum meines Hauses und lese Ihre Kritik. Noch habe ich sie vor mir... Bald werde ich sie hinter mir haben.

Babel readers! Please sign this petition against the closure of the University of West Virginia’s Dept. of World Languages. Short-sighted senior managers there are under the misguided impression that expert linguists can be replaced by language learning apps.
Thanks to everyone who’s helped to boost our signal. Please sign and share, no matter who you are or where! #WVU #stopthecuts #AcademicTwitter Preserve Students' Rights to Study World Languages at WVU - Sign the Petition! chng.it/hD98KQTH via @Change

Today's surprising discovery about British English: In Britain they say "on second thoughts" (with an S) instead of "on second thought" - it's the type of thing that sounds to American ears like a nonnative speaker!

Me encantan estos recuerdos del Profesor Moralo. Aunque el sistema jurídico estadounidense no se parece al español, reconozco mucho de lo que se cuenta aquí porque comencé mi carrera de abogado en 1990 (sin internet, sin correo electrónico, en fin, un mundo decimonónico)
Hoy hace 33 años que principié a ejercer como abogado. Algunas de mis reminiscencias de aquella Justicia de los primeros años 90, que más bien parecía, una Justicia del siglo XIX:

I’m reading a book by Lucy Kellaway (obviously in BrE) and tried to imagine what a “terraced house” is. I pictured it completely wrong. Turns out it’s what we call a townhouse!

In American academia, you sometimes have to remind people that the language these people wrote in was not English

"Le far west" in French means "milieu sans lois ni règles morales" but the way to say this in English is "Wild West" (not "Far West"). Wild West = place or situation in which disorderly behavior prevails, due to lack of respect for the law. Thanks for the tip, @ChrisDurbanFR
