After an article on @livemint, a Smallcap firm called Goyal Aluminiums Ltd dipped by 73.5%. Interestingly: - The article had NO MENTION of an author. - Had one sided positive coverage. - No disclaimer was given. (Have linked the entire article: please read it carefully) Would be very interested to know: why traditional media should NOT be regulated by SEBI while publishing such articles. And, why the Author's credentials should NOT be clearly displayed? This is just one of the many examples I can give you. Anyone who write/speaks about stock markets, should display their verified personal portfolio (I have done mine, check my previous tweets) As an audience, you should ask for more transparency, not more regulations (so far, no one is even talking about regulating the finance media). The rules should apply equally to all.

That’s the entrance to the premium industrial area of my city where thousands of workers come everyday. The land price here are 10Cr per acre minimum. The total export from here is around 1500 Cr. I don’t have figures for taxes paid by the companies and individuals working here but it will be humongous number. As a Finance Educator, I am 100% okay being regulated by SEBI. [1] If they wish me to write an exam, I am okay doing it. [2] If they wish me to show my audited PnL, I am okay doing that. [3] My request would be that: even the mainstream media, where folks frequently discusses about stocks/ other financial products, should be upheld to the same standards & scrutiny. Educated, competent folks, who have nothing to hide, should not be scared. This includes EVERYBODY. Additionally, the process of getting a SEBI licence should be streamlined & simplified.

In 2022, Live Mint (@livemint) pumped and dumped a Crypto called as Lucky Block. Several retail investors lost money. In August 2023, they are trying to do the same AGAIN! Not only in Cryptos, but even in other asset classes, they pump products, by giving biased coverages. And, take 0 accountability (I can cite numerous examples). It is really surprising that their editors take a moral high ground and lecture everyone (but themselves) on high ethical standards. I really hope regulators and ASCI look into this closely. To you as audience: the next time you read biased coverages on credit cards, cryptos, stocks, please be careful. As many finance educators say: hear ALL viewpoints. And, at the end of the day be responsible for your own money.
