🕯️ On 14 June 1941, the Soviet Union deported more than 15,400 people from Latvia in a mass deportation campaign. Some of those deported were arrested and taken to places of imprisonment, while the rest were forcibly resettled in Siberia and Kazakhstan. Today, the Foreign Service commemorates 71 Latvian diplomats and their family members who were deported or executed. This brutal deportation tore families apart and shattered people’s lives and destinies. Russia has never accepted responsibility for these crimes and, for a fifth year, continues its war of aggression against Ukraine 🇺🇦 and its people. Russia must be held accountable for crimes against humanity.

Latvia has stepped forward to support the rescue of Ukrainian children abducted by russia and trapped in occupied territories. 🇱🇻🇺🇦 This support will help bring more children home. We are deeply grateful to @LV_Ukraine and @Latvian_MFA for turning solidarity into action. Paldies!

My first meeting with the new Prime Minister of Latvia, @AndrisKulbergs, and an important result for our countries – we signed a Drone Deal. These are concrete things to strengthen our joint defense and co-production, and, importantly, this also means Ukraine’s expertise and experience helping to strengthen our partners. This is exactly the kind of systemic cooperation we are building with those who have consistently supported us throughout all the years of Russia’s war. Ukraine is interested in ensuring that every region of Europe has sufficient protection against Russian threats. I also informed the Prime Minister about Ukraine’s air defense needs. Separately, we discussed sanctions pressure on Russia, in particular strengthening sanctions against Russia’s shadow fleet. I am grateful that we have such excellent relations between our nations. And we thank Latvia for all the support it has provided to Ukraine throughout this war.

At the #UNSC briefing on Ukraine, Latvia underscored: 🇺🇦 No one wants peace more than Ukraine. In the last few days, the President of Ukraine has publicly & officially reiterated his call for a ceasefire & talks. ❗️His letter was derided & rejected by the President of Russia. ❗️This reconfirms publicly what we all already know. Russia is the sole obstacle to peace.❗️ 🇱🇻 Latvia supports the principles & way forward charted by the leaders of France, the United Kingdom, & Germany on June 7. 🇱🇻🇫🇷 When a UAV entered Latvian airspace, NATO air policing forces responded to protect the safety and security of NATO airspace. French Rafale fighters assigned to NATO Baltic Air Policing identified and neutralised the UAV over an uninhabited area. The incident demonstrates NATO readiness and France’s continued contribution to security on NATO’s eastern flank. NATO remains ready, vigilant and united. #WeAreNATO

Latvia 🇱🇻 strongly condemns today’s terrorist attack in the community of Tzur Natan in central Israel 🇮🇱 We extend our condolences to the family of the victim and wish a swift recovery to those injured. This attack once again demonstrates that Hamas must have no role in the future governance of Gaza. The only path to peace and security for both Israelis and Palestinians is the implementation of President Donald Trump’s peace plan.

FREDERIKSEN: One of the things where I have disagreed with some of my colleagues is all the red lines that have been put on Ukraine, because I don't think you can win a war with red lines. You remember in the beginning, we were willing to give away some of our F-16s. We were not allowed to do that because some allies said, "Well, we cannot put our fighter jets in Ukraine." Then we had questions about long-range weapons. That was also red line. There have been so many red lines. It's almost like we have asked you to defend Europe with one arm behind your back. That has not been fair. And one of the ways to get around some of these red lines is producing directly in Ukraine, because now you can produce some of the weapons that some allies have been refusing to give you.
