Collagen-IV networks rule the #mechanics of our epithelia, but we know little about how they reshape. Our new preprint (with the 1st coarse-grained MD models of #collagen-IV!) shows how consuming energy during remodelling might make the difference: 📑tiny.cc/s6fqzz 🧵

Thus energy consumption unlocks forbidden parts of the mechanical phase space. Life might use this to tune tissue mechanics over time simply via enzyme concentration, without needing to modify the binding sites of collagen-IV molecules or the network structure.

The actin #cortex is attached to the #membrane via linking proteins. When these linkers get trapped in the cortex meshes, actin jams🚧, #contractility stops🛑 and cells polarise☄️Exciting collaboration ( real fun!) with @diz_lab @TesoroRuben @SaricLab 📑biorxiv.org/content/10.1101/…

New Preprint! How can cells polarize in the absence of a stimulus? We suggest a surprising biophysical mechanism, protein caging! We reveal how the complex mechanical interactions at the cell surface lead to symmetry breaking. biorxiv.org/content/10.1101/…

First manuscript of the PhD in @biorxivpreprint ! Congrats to all co-authors and specially Srishti,@IvnPla ,@diz_lab ! I think we bring forward some cool concepts and questions to the field! (Slightly biased statement😜) Check it out and stay tuned for more things to come! 🤗

Did you know cell filaments love to treadmill? 🔄 They grow and shrink on opposite ends and burn energy doing it! But why? How does it drive self-organisation and bacterial division? Dive into our new publication ft. @SaricLab @nartimsoole @seamus_holden labs to find out! 🧫🔬🖥️

Researchers at @ISTAustria have discovered a previously unknown mechanism of active matter #SelfOrganization, crucial for bacterial #CellDivision: Misaligned filaments spontaneously "die" to create a well-organized ring structure at the center of a dividing cell.
