Japanese developer discovers the concept of a CRPG.
The Japanese don't know what an RPG is, they seem to think it's a "rigid story with a party and turn based combat", there's rarely custom main characters, player input or choice.
It even became it's own thing: The JRPG.
The director of the Final Fantasy 7 Remake trilogy says modern RPGs need to feature more player agency, to discourage players from choosing to just stream a playthrough instead.

Fable NPC system is so sophisticated the devs are calling it a "life simulator"
You build reputation through your actions in the game, then each NPC has a different opinion of you based on your reputation.
You might have to become a rich business owner to impress and date one of the NPCs in the game, but another NPC will hate you for being so rich. As a consequence, that NPC could increase the prices on their merchandise when you visit their store.
Even small actions such as giving money to the homeless or evicting people out of their houses will impact your reputation, and this can be done at a very large scale, because you could:
- Buy every home in the world of Fable
- Evict everyone out of their homes
- Have every NPC now live on the street
Possibilities are quite literally endless here

I’d like to thank MP @HonAhmedHussen for co-sponsoring this bill with me and for his counsel.
I hope that all MPs will support this legislation.
Canada is home to many Canadians of Somali heritage.
Canadians of Somali descent have left and continue to leave a historic mark on Canada, with contributions that span communities across the country and are reflected in Canada’s economic, political, social and cultural life.
If passed, Somali heritage month would give us an opportunity to celebrate that heritage, the role that Canada has played in supporting Somali Canadians and their contributions to Canada.
