There's a funny facial expression people get when you ask em what their PhD is about. A second or more of anguished freezing as they: 1) desperately try to infer how smart you are, so that they can pitch it at a level neither insultingly vague nor nerdview inside-baseball

"Spadina Bus" is truly an anthem for the people.
Did you catch @mmmbarclay "33 Songs From Here" in the Music & Sports issue? We thought we'd make a playlist so you could listen along while you read! (excluding 3 songs that aren't on streaming) on Spotify 🟢: open.spotify.com/playlist/7p… and Apple Music 🍎: music.apple.com/ca/playlist/…

In 1847, Toronto's population was 20,000, and we admitted 40,000 refugees 😮☘️ (Okay yes this did lead to sectarian violence, but my point is that Canada still has lots of space) torontoverse.com/articles/-5…

If I could do it all over, I would go back and write my field exams in the form of progressively deranged first-person dialogue.
Probably the most insightful abstract of a book review ever written. I have a whole new level of respect for James Fenske.

TIL: Along with "Diarrhoea of the mouth" and "Constipation of the brain", Zambia's Handbook on Unparliamentary Language includes the phrase "Chinese Money" in its 37-page list of terms which "lower the dignity and integrity of the House". parliament.gov.zm/sites/defa…

Oh good, Ontario saved $1.2 billion this quarter by not spending on schools and hospitals. Not like those have been under any pressure the last few months 🙄 fao-on.org/en/Blog/Publicati…

This isn't cuts- it's money that was already budgeted but didn't get spent. What could we have done with this money? Well, $1.2 billion is the *annual* budget of @sickkids hospital, where surgeries for children are being delayed this fall.

Genuinely one of the best ways to spend your money.
Together with @Canva we’re delivering money to people in extreme poverty in Malawi. They’re free to spend it however they like and decide for themselves how best to design their own future. More at GiveDirectly.org/canva

Over the last three years, @UofT's student employees used their mental health benefits more than ever. In response, the university froze benefits for three years, and now wants to cut them by 10%. 😡 ✊ @cupe3902
Replying to @bredovsk
One healthcare expense stood out: mental health services (therapy). Usage went from $416k per year in 2019 to $1.2MILLION in 2022!!! An increase of 287% in just 4 years! More and more Unit 1 members are seeking mental health services. Here's line graph with therapy in blue (6/15)
