Dyna Gear for the arcade (Scarab/Sammy/1994).
Prehistoric-themed run-and-gun game where players control a space cop (Roger) or a wolf-man (Wolf) fighting dinosaurs and aliens. The weapons are crazy and nicely exaggerated, and everything is bright and colorful.
Absolute hidden gem, specially because it never left the arcade (no home ports).
Too many 90s arcade gems are still trapped on dead hardware. We're fixing that.

It's incredible that so many of us grew up in a time and in countries where a single game could upwards of 20% of your parents' monthly wages, yet we still found ways of playing games.

Man I would have loved to play god of war, but I couldn’t because I didn’t have s PlayStation or pc as a kid. So I had to watch people like jacksepticeye play it because I couldnt afford a console. To call someone a larper for that is honestly classist and privileged
LARPing epidemic really is an issue that gaming made for itself after years of insisting that games are more than just gameplay and constant accommodation to non-players in-order to get them to experience video game stories.
Playing games was made unnecessary on purpose.
I'm willing to accept that you can be a fan without playing on condition that game studios will start again to make games for people who are actually interested in playing them.
Sometimes looking back at these makes me realized how much I love the bold look. Thin and clean pieces are great too, but I think these examples feel more at home... 🫠

There is no way around it, game design is intuition, and intuition is built from experience
That is to say, if you are a beat 'em up developer, go spend 80 hours to 1cc Final Fight before you implement the next function
This is good advise in a vaccum, but if you are a developer reading this you DO not play and study enough games
Go get good at the genre you are making, do the homework, or you will make disposable shallow games
