Honored to be featured in today’s @phillyinquirer. The piece highlights my work with colleagues to ensure Philly’s historic $800M housing investment prioritizes those who need it most. Grateful for my PHL Council colleagues and other partners in the work! bit.ly/4bokBJT

There's no better way to spend a Saturday morning than at the Clark Park Farmers Market! Thank you to the Food Trust for making sure our community has access to healthy, local, and affordable food at Philly's oldest year-round farmers market! And through their Food Bucks program, Philadelphians with SNAP get more for less!

ICYMI: City Council unanimously approved my legislation making water bills more affordable! For working families, rising water rates mean pinching pennies just to keep the water flowing. For those already at their breaking point, it means dry pipes. Water is a constitutionally recognized basic human right in Pennsylvania. To working families worried about paying their water bill, help is on the way!

While marching with our LGBTQ community and celebrating on the Parkway, I witnessed law enforcement behaving respectfully and even dancing as the parade passed by. So I was outraged to see PPD use aggressive tactics while clearing the Gayborhood later that night. What I've heard from my constituents and seen online is unacceptable. Yesterday, I spoke with Police Commissioner Bethel to express my alarm, urge him to thoroughly investigate what happened, and take steps to ensure PPD safely de-escalates and disperses crowds in the future. Police violence has no place at Pride or in Philadelphia. I stand with our LGBTQ neighbors and every diverse community until we see accountability and change.

Happy 25th anniversary to the Sustainable Business Network of Greater Philadelphia! SBN and its members prove that businesses can do well by doing good. Our economy isn't working for working families, and Trump is only making it worse. So it's up to us to support businesses with a triple bottom line of people, planet, and prosperity.

Clayborn & Lewis received a $435,000 renovation! Clayborn & Lewis is the beating heart of the East Parkside community, and since I became your Councilmember, we've made several investments here. But I know that our work isn't finished. Thank you to Ms. Roberta Lighty and the other community members who steward and fight for Clayborn & Lewis. Ms. Lighty and her neighbors make sure the City doesn't forget about Clayborn & Lewis and that we give it the TLC it deserves. There’s a lot of hype around Rebuild and our transformation of large rec centers and libraries – and I am proud of that work. But I have never lost sight of the fact that our smaller sites are just as important to the neighborhoods they serve. So I make you this promise: I will keep fighting for Clayborn & Lewis and for every other small but mighty community space in this district. They deserve regular maintenance, upgrades, and staffing too.

3,000 of our neighbors in West and Southwest Philly are fighting for their homes. The good news? My People's Preservation Package means we have the legislative tools to keep this affordable housing from disappearing. And we fought for the City's H.O.M.E. Initiative so we would have the funding for situations like this one. All that's missing is the will to act, and we need Mayor Parker to join our fight. If we care about affordable housing as much as we say we do, we will prove it by saving these 925 homes. If we fail to act, displacement will get even worse in every neighborhood from Kingsessing to Overbrook and Powelton Village to Cobbs Creek. gridphilly.com/blog-home/202…

Yesterday the @PHLCouncil Committee on Utilities advanced my legislation making water bills more affordable! Far too many Philadelphians are making the impossible choice between keeping the lights on, putting food on the table, and paying their water bill. Water is a basic human right, and we are lucky to live in a city where our water system belongs to taxpayers, not corporate interests. I am fighting to ensure Philadelphians do not lose access to clean and affordable water.

We're making Philly and Chester sick by burning trash. This isn't safe, clean, or green. Mayor Parker, for the sake of our children and our planet, end Philly's dirty deal with trash incinerators that turn our waste into toxic air and ash!

The School Board ignored our warning that rubber-stamping the School District's half-baked facilities master plan would degrade our school system and push families out. But Jeffery Yass sees it and is exploiting the Board's ill-advised decision to advance his crusade against public education. Jeffery Yass is the richest person in Pennsylvania. He could close the School District of Philadelphia's deficit many times over. If Jeffery Yass really cared about our young people, he would invest in our public school system and stop propping up political organizations that oppose fair public school funding. Public education is the key to an equitable and democratic society. The Board of Education failed in its duty by rolling out the red carpet for opportunists like Jeffery Yass to plunder our public schools for their personal gain. inquirer.com/education/phila…

Philly's air quality received a failing grade — and the City is partly to blame. Health experts confirm that one of the best ways to clean our air is by ending our dirty deal with trash incinerators, which turn our waste into toxic air and ash that we all breathe. Yet Mayor Parker opposes the Stop Trashing Our Air Act, which would do exactly that. We deserve to breathe clean, trash-free air. I urge the Parker Administration to take our dirty air crisis seriously and end the City's contract with trash incinerators!

Come along with me as I bike to from Clark Park to City Hall in honor of bike to work or wherever day! Traffic violence is real violence, and it is preventable. On my ride I was reminded about the very real dangers cyclist face every day. Biking is healthy and good for the environment, but it is also the most affordable way to get around that is not on your own two feet. Let's keep working to make our roads safer for everyone!

We are fighting to save 925 affordable homes. We have the legislative tools. We have the funding. All that's missing is the will to act. If we care about affordable housing as much as we say we do, we will not hesitate to keep 3,000 of our neighbors housed! whyy.org/articles/west-phila…

Our kids deserve better. After the Board of Education voted to close 17 schools — as part of a plan that relies on $2 billion in funding we do not have — City Council is stepping in. We're using our oversight authority to take a forensic look at the School District's governing structure. Our community deserves a School Board that puts students first.

Last night @PHLschoolboard closed 17 schools including Robeson, Parkway West, and Blankenburg. They hid in a private room and held a virtual meeting instead of looking us in the eye because they know in their hearts this plan is wrong. City Council is one of the main funders of the School District of Philadelphia and we will hold them accountable. I am also calling for the resignation of the six board members who voted to close our schools. Let's keep showing up for our students and our schools. This fight is not over. ✊🏾

Philly's air received a failing grade and it is only getting worse. The American Lung Association supports the Stop Trashing Our Air Act because burning our waste pollutes our air and fuels sickness like asthma and cancer. We only have about 2 months until Philly's contract with trash burners expires. I am fighting for cleaner air by ending the City's dirty deal with companies that profit by turning our waste into toxic air.
The air quality in the Philadelphia region received a failing grade in an annual report from the American Lung Association, and it's only getting worse. The report says the pollution is coming from cars, power plants, chemicals and fires.
