This isn’t a surprise.
These flies can move several miles in a day looking for a host.
And that host can be any animal, not just livestock. There’s a lot of wildlife on this TX rangeland, not just cattle.
USDA has confirmed a second detection of New World Screwworm in a one-month-old calf in Zavala County, Texas — approximately 5.6 miles from the first case.

Texas ranchers, hunters and wildlife advocates have been watching for this since last year. Looks like the screwworm may have finally returned.

A case of NWS may have been detected in South Texas. The sample is now at USDA's National Veterinary Services Laboratories (NVSL) in Ames, lowa for confirmatory testing. We will provide updates the moment results are available.

Stores in Texas took hemp flower off the shelf again today.
As part of a back and forth legal battle, an appeal by the state meant the rule that bans most smokable hemp went back into effect.
The last ban in late March lasted about two weeks.
