I know everyone is talking about Matt Gaetz but please don't miss this: Georgia fired every single person on its maternal mortality review committee. Why? They didn't like that reporters found out that the state's ban killed two women propublica.org/article/georg…

Dedicated wind-sourced hydrogen (H2) can decarbonize industries but requires thousands of tonnes of H2 storage. Storing H2 as methylcyclohexane can outcompete alternative aboveground solutions with modest effects on delivery costs nature.com/articles/s41467-0…

A low energy demand, 1.5 °C-compatible pathway is provided for Europe from a country scale modelling perspective. The pathway shows in 2050 a 50% reduction of final energy demand and a 100% renewable energy share, with very limited needs for imports nature.com/articles/s41467-0…

Opinion: All science papers must state how confident we should be in them In this age of widespread mis/disinformation, non-scientists need help to grasp which claims bear rigorous scrutiny, says Gary Atkinson bit.ly/3YrhE4p

Usually I don’t talk about stuff like this because frankly it happens way too often. But not today… As I pulled into the same faculty parking lot that I park in all the time @msstate, a white woman was coming out of my office building. Her car was parked next to the space I pulled into.

Our new paper in @NatMachIntell tells a story about how, and why, ML methods for solving PDEs do not work as well as advertised. We find that two reproducibility issues are widespread. As a result, we conclude that ML-for-PDE solving has reached overly optimistic conclusions.

There are many ways to support Orange Shirt Day at the University of Alberta –– learn more about the many Indigenous Initiatives, get orange shirts and hoodies or participate in events from the U of A Bookstore. Join us at the exhibit on the legacy of residential schools, live painting with Artist-in-Residence Jerry Whitehead, as well as traditional dancing and drumming at the U of A Bookstore throughout Sept. 23 to Oct. 3. All the proceeds from the sales of the U of A orange shirts goes back to First Peoples' House to fund cultural programming. We encourage and thank you for your support. 🧡

Edmonton has had one of the strongest transit recoveries since the pandemic compared to other cities in Canada, with ridership increasing by 130% since the spring of 2021.  Last May, Edmonton Transit had 5.3 million riders. That’s five million trips made by Edmontonians and visitors to our city to work, community events, local attractions, Oiler’s games, and more.  As transit ridership continues to grow, we are working hard to improve transit for all Edmontonians.  And an affordable and accessible transit system is one of the ways that we’re building an Edmonton for all of us.  #yegcc #yegtransit
