As Chair of the Subcommittee on Water, Wildlife, and Fisheries, I was pleased to hear how locally driven, collaborative efforts in Central Oregon are making a difference. Two clear messages stood out from the witness testimony: 1. We need stronger protection for our watersheds from fire. 2. We must protect our farmers and ranchers from the negative impacts of Endangered Species Act (ESA) implementation. These witness testimony were insightful, and I’ll be returning to Washington better equipped to draft legislation that addresses these critical issues.
