ALT People act like the teacher shortage is a law of nature but one of these things is not like the others. Gravity makes stuff fall down. Energy is conserved over time. We will never have enough teachers. The teacher shortage is a political challenge not a scientific fact. If you are serious about getting more people to do ANY job, not just teaching, you can do any number of things to make that job more appealing to more people, including more pay, more autonomy, more support, etc etc. The Al guys will happily take any political or social question and tell you that the answer is technology, especially ONE technology. But it isn't a law of nature that you have to replace capable human teachers with mediocre Al chatbots. You just have to make it more appealing to be a capable human teacher.
