RT @RevKimWChafee: Fundamentalism is never satisfied. It has moved right-ward, from the opinion that women cannot be lead pastors, to women…

One of the most destructive myths Christian parents have believed is that (1) God requires them to hit small children & (2) there is a “right” way to do this that is not harmful. Neither of these are true. Replicating these liturgies of spanking teaches children other things:

So true
Matthew 18:15-17 is one of the most frequently misunderstood and misused Scripture passages that we see in GRACE investigations. If you've ever been told to reconcile with someone who abused you (or if you've wondered if a survivor is biblically mandated to confront their abuser before leaving), we encourage you to check out our conversation with Wade Mullen and Jay Kieve on the appropriate application of the Matthew 18 process and why it shouldn't apply to situations of abuse. Watch the full conversation on GRACE's YouTube channel! 🔗 youtube.com/watch?v=WqzjNkB2… #conflictresolution #Matthew18process #GRACE #GRACELiveConversation #abuseawareness #abuseresponse

Replying to @pciassembly
The @pciassembly & @UnionTCollege are being publicly humbled as the subjects of a criminal investigation by PSNI & statutory investigation by the Charity Commission. But they’re not humbling themselves - they prefer to continue placing their men on pedestals in pompous tradition.

Did @pciassembly @UnionTCollege @PCIModerator pause their “longstanding tradition” (as might’ve shown repentance, humility & wisdom in light of the ongoing criminal investigation of the Presbyterian Church in Ireland) ? No, they did not.
1 yr ago, @pciassembly & @UnionTCollege conferred an honorary doctorate on incoming Moderator Rev. Trevor Gribben before he resigned in disgrace. Now @pciassembly (under criminal investigation by PSNI & stat. investigation by Charity Commission) pursue tradition, without pause.

Ahead of the General Assembly, in a long standing tradition the Presbyterian Theological Faculty, Ireland conferred an hon Doctorate of Divinity on PCI's incoming Moderator, Rev Richard Kerr, as he takes up the Church's highest office next month: bit.ly/4tWKaXY #PCIGA26

Oh yes! And when will the penultimate occupier of that same post be stripped of his Hon. DD given the disgrace he’s brought to PCI’s doorstep?

The Presbyterian Church in Ireland @pciassembly @UnionTCollege (under criminal investigation by the PSNI & statutory investigation by the Charity Commission for serious safeguarding failures, alleged severe bullying, cover-ups etc.) should be ashamed of itself. @BelTel #NDAfree

The same places that tell a woman "no" to ministerial leadership on ontological grounds seem unable to find the will to tell a man "no" based on disqualifying character SBC is obvs example. Have seen it in the ACNA too. All your gnat-straining is empty words in light of this.

It’s now been over a week since the verdict came in at the court case for Jonathan Fletcher. The legal system has spoken decisively. But so far barely a single organisation or church leader in his orbit has apologised or expressed concern for his victims (until it’s amended…

In my experience of #fletcherculture, which is extensive, 'loyalty' is the virtue prized over any fruit of the Spirit.
One of the aspects of #FletcherCulture which is so “successful” is the pressure to be loyal & silent. “Don’t dob” There may be external pressure toward proper investigations & accountability But internally no one (few?) step up to lead &/or hold to account

Another ripple effect of his monstrous abuse is the long term psychological damage to countless women and families involved. It will take a lifetime to recover.

I'm still cross about this. Safeguarding is not a secular ideology. The care and protection of children and the vulnerable is core to all three Abrahamic religions.
The largest one for me: 'This doesn't mean we need a wave of worldly governance oversight. There is much in secular safeguarding ideology which runs counter to true biblical justice.' I really thought we'd moved on from seeing safeguarding as something imposed & unbiblical!
