I was listening to .
@jockowillink's podcast, I had three things that stood out to me:
1. Some Baptist Pride: While Jocko is interviewing former Navy SEAL .
@EphraimMattos about his organization .
@strongholdresc and its work in Burma, he mentions the deep Baptistic roots and loyalty many of the Burmese people have because of Adoniram Judson. Judson is one of my Baptist missionary heroes who is pictured in my study and brought the Gospel to Burma in 1813. When I was going to college in Chicago, our church shared the building with a Baptist Burmese congregation of the Chin tribe. What a small world to see the providence of God at work!
2. Toward the end of the episode Ephraim delves a little into veteran suicide. He notes what I have been advocating for with the little influence I have: That veteran suicide is not primarily tied to combat exposure but has more to do with loss of identity and community disconnect (to put it in my own words; go and listen for yourself). I’m so grateful the conversation around veteran suicide is beginning to shift. If we have the wrong cause in mind, we will have the wrong solution.
3. The work Stronghold is doing is fascinating. I had never heard of their work until this episode, and it certainly deserves more exposure. Go and listen!
