It marks the moment freedom finally reached our people right here in Texas. Our people took what was withheld and built something powerful: resilience, pride, and a legacy we carry to this day.
We remember those who fought to get us here, and we stay in the fight to make sure nobody’s left behind.

#OnThisDay in 1865, General Gordon Granger arrived in Galveston, TX to read Order No. 3, which affirmed the end of slavery in the states of the former Confederacy. This momentous occasion has been celebrated as #Juneteenth — a combination of “June” & “19th” — for over 150 years.
