"It's not a human right to compel others to use the 'preferred pronouns' of someone who is claiming to be of the opposite sex or 'non-binary'. In fact, freedom of expression is a fundamental human right, recognised by the UNHRC, subject to a few restrictions." @IrishCathNews

DAVID QUINN on the "ideological mission creep" in Leaving Cert subjects - including English where 1980s Ireland is painted as a time of patriarchal suppression and gothic horror. "This is not history. It is caricature," he says. gript.ie/david-quinn-how-the…

On the appeal of relativism, the idea that there is no "true" knowledge and that evidence doesn't matter in the humanities, including anthropology: "How did so many scholars, from so many different fields, become so thoroughly convinced of a heady view in epistemology, especially one that is stubbornly rejected by the mainstream of professional philosophers? We cannot say that the appeal is intellectual: We cannot point to powerful arguments that make a strong case for the view. On the contrary, and as we will see in a moment, the intellectual case against relativism about knowledge is overwhelming. However, while it is not easy to see a strong intellectual case for relativism about knowledge, it is easy to see how it came to seem appealing to scholars who think of their scholarly project as a form of politics. In what way is the view politically appealing? If any claim to knowledge — even one coming from established science or direct observation — depends for its justification on certain contingent non-epistemic values, then any such claim can be dispatched if one rejects the nonepistemic values on which it allegedly depends. And that can seem to be a very powerful tool. Suppose you don’t like what biology is saying about a politically charged topic, e.g., sex. You don’t have to accept what biology has to say, no matter how “well-supported by the evidence” it happens to be, since its justification will also depend ineliminably on certain non-epistemic values, ones that you may happen not to share. You don’t like a thesis that evolutionary psychology is building a case for? You may ignore the whole field, dismissing it as deriving from misguided political values. And so on. I n general, a social constructionism about knowledge provides a blanket a priori guarantee that no one can force you to accept a thesis you don’t like on the alleged grounds that it has been shown to be true by the available evidence. For according to the view in question, there is simply no such thing."

thecountess.ie/ideologies-in…. Many of you have been asking for advice on how to approach your child’s school about inappropriate school curriculum content etc. Despite Irish parents having a fundamental constitutional role as the primary educators of their children, particularly in areas of moral & religious formation, many parents now perceive a growing disconnect between this role & the content delivered through compulsory elements of the school curriculum, especially SPHE, RSE, & Bí Cineálta. The practical steps outlined in this guide aim to empower parents to address their concerns lawfully & constructively, while centring the child’s best interests. The Guide covers parents’ legal rights, how to raise concerns with schools, & how to escalate beyond the Board of Management. It is not legal advice and we recommend seeking legal advice where appropriate. Please share with other parents you think would benefit from this Guide. @WomensSpaceIre

Based on this research, Dr Aoife Neary published articles in Gender and Education @gaejournal and @INTOnews Irish Teacher's Journal. As I explain in the article below, the sample had an over-representation of LGBTQ -identified staff, secular respondents, and multi-denominational school staff than would be expected in a representative cross-section of primary school staff. In both of these articles, full demographic characteristics were not reported, making it appear as if the sample was more representative than it really is. In the article published in Gender and Education, Dr Neary only described the age and gender of participants. All information showing non-representativeness was excluded. In the INTO article, the sexual orientation and religious affiliation of participants was excluded. Both articles neglect to mention that 241 respondents did not teach or work in a class. All of this is key information that helps us understand how generalisable the findings are. Why excluded it? Screenshots of articles in comments.
KELLY HENRIQUES: The Belong To Primary School research was used to pilot a LGBTQ scheme for primary schools. Basing policy on research is obviously fine, provided the research measures up. This research does not. gript.ie/henriques-the-belon…

Every parent of young children who use crèche facilities or who attend state provided pre-school nursery need to read this article from Women’s Space. Be informed & ask the right questions. When DEI is given more precedence than child safeguarding, parents need to step up & advocate for their children.
Replying to @TheCountessIE

Does protecting free speech harm vulnerable minorities? A new analysis of over 600,000 people suggests the opposite, finding that individuals who prioritize open expression hold significantly more tolerant attitudes toward marginalized groups. dlvr.it/TSysfq

More woke nonsense in our schools A QUESTION about 'a pregnant person' on one of this year's Leaving Cert exams has sparked a row about classrooms and unsuspecting stuents being used in transgender culture wars. Critics also claimed the State Examination Commission's decision not to use the term 'pregnant woman' in this week's Applied Leaving Cert Social Education paper is 'an insult to half the country's population'. The controversy arose after Aontú Senator Sarah O'Reilly was contacted by a teacher who claimed that asking students to answer questions about 'a pregnant person' rather than a pregnant woman was an affront to the rights and dignity of biological women. The Cavan-based politician last night accused the Government of bringing culture wars into the classroom of young adults.

Page 74 of “Teaching for Social Justice and Sustainable Development Across the Primary Curriculum” is particularly disturbing. It describes the hidden curriculum, the pedagogy, with a new definition for "Critical Thinking". It resembles a page from an indoctrination manual?
