CTP-binding and hydrolysis regarded as a fundamental feature of a ParB-like molecular switches. To challenge this view we provide the first example of a type-I ParABS system that does NOT require CTP to assemble a segrosome for DNA segregation. biorxiv.org/content/10.1101/…

I would like to thank @ThatcherLouise, @AndyTruman4 and chairman @CharlieBondXray for making our PhD viva feeling like a productive scientific discussion, not like an exam! I am glad you were my examinators and chair!

Big news for @KSukhoverkov @SMS_UWA who just finished his PhD viva with the result "passed with minor revision" ... Dr Sukhoverkov! His PhD thesis was entitled "Exploring New Pathways For Targeting Herbicides" 👨‍🎓🥳🍾

I did my PhD under supervision of @j_mylne and would highly recommend his lab to everyone who wants to become a multidisciplinary researcher and seeks for broad publication opportunities and excellent supervision!

The tree-friendly version of work by @KSukhoverkov using solid statistics and #Arabidopsis to find new, true and rare herbicide synergies is out today in Pest Manag. Sci. Available via doi.org/10.1002/ps.6533

An online early version is out today at Pest. Manag. Sci. The work by @KSukhoverkov @SMS_UWA and @PlantEnergyBiol used rigorous statistics to discover new and real herbicide synergies. Also it's a real rarity nowadays in biology: a 2-author paper! 🌱🍾😄 doi.org/10.1002/ps.6533

Thanks @hudsontakano for spotting this just out. A paper that injects some rigour into the statistics that will distinguish additivity from synergy and antagonism.
This just out in Pest. Manag. Sci. by @WyoWeeds, Jens Streibig and Christian Ritz reviews statistical approaches applicable for looking antagonism or synergism. "How to use statistics to claim antagonism and synergism from binary mixture experiments" dx.doi.org/10.1002/ps.6348

So excited for (and envious of) @KSukhoverkov who's been offered a 5-yr post-doc contract (yes 5!). Can't publicly say where, but let's say he could be in the obese feline banging back a clergyman's goodbye by a time it's safe to cast a clout. Defends his thesis soon! 😉

Here's an example of a synergy being spotted as yellow or white (death) in a 'sea of (sub-lethal) green' ... the doses used were just perfect such that even weak synergy really stood out.

Using Arabidopsis, @KSukhoverkov screened 24 #herbicide MoAs against each other (276 combinations) and found 2 reliable synergies 3 new ones; 2 of the new ones worked vs lettuce too. All three new combinations included a bleaching herbicide. biorxiv.org/cgi/content/shor…

Out on @biorxivpreprint today is work by @KSukhoverkov "A systematic approach for finding herbicide synergies". He used the perfect dose for each so herbicide synergies stood out starkly as white or yellow death in a 'sea of green' (sub-lethal growth). doi.org/10.1101/2021.02.08.4…
