Speech and language therapist, workforce development specialist. Teacher, optimist, persistent asker of questions. I reserve the right to change my mind.
I've learned and changed more as a therapist in the last couple of years than in the previous 10 (20?). Reflecting on my practice, especially in terms of racism and neurodiversity, has been exciting some days. On other days I'm learning to face the discomfort of having been wrong
Big thanks to Julie Holmes of Chatter Speech Therapy and Kate Cummings for an incredibly informative training day focused on #gestaltlanguageprocessing. Consider our heads comfortably full and absolutely inspired. ❤️🧡💛💚💙💜
Not a ‘good’ opportunity (as there is nothing good about Molly’s experience) but a relevant opportunity to share this about adjustments that can help autistic people in hospitals: ndti.org.uk/resources/public…
My🧠is working hard to apply #gestaltlanguageprocessing theory to cases I am working with! Grateful for @KateSLT's talk at last week's CEN & the chance to discuss with an independent SLT working with these cases earlier in the week to develop joint advice @SLTsSameTeam#MySLTday
We had a great morning at the Yorkshire Autism CEN with a discussion led by @KateSLT on her experiences of using the Natural Language Acquisition framework. Huge thanks to Kate & to all who attended and participated - our best attended CEN meeting yet! #MySLTday@RCSLTLearn
This blogpost by @AnnMemmott makes for stark reading. I’ll be looking out for a fuller publication in time to read more about the rights and ethics of autistic children as considered by ABA.
The belief that any caregiver could manipulate the linguistic input their child(ren) receives in such a life-altering way that children will be set up to “succeed” in school and beyond, ignores the role of structural factors on “success” and “failure.”
We are looking for an #SLT2b to join us as an SLTA for 1-2 days per week from Jan, with opp to apply for a B5 position from Sept 2023. MS primary and/or post 16. Contact for more details or see our posts on insta, fbook and LinkedIn.

Scarlet fever is getting a lot of media attention at the moment, because of an increased number of cases and sporadic antibiotic shortages. I know parents are worrying. So, here's another set of photos of what it looks like on darker skin.

Hello lovely #SLTwitter! For my final year dissertation project, I am exploring barriers/facilitators to communication in people with Parkinson's Disease and their communication partners. Please RT/share this with anyone you think would be interested in participating. Thank you!
This is wonderful, just heard it mentioned on @bbc5live news.
But maybe @BBCNews could change their wording (they described Rob as "non-verbal")? @CBeebiesHQ@CbeebiesBBC
Lovely to see former Rugby League player Rob Burrows spreading some Christmas magic and highlighting how an #AAC device is helping him to communicate with his children 🪄🎄 bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment…
If you are a parent/carer/educator of any echolalic children, it is very worth your while to learn more about gestalt language processing!

Really pleased to have helped organise this letter on the specialist SEND workforce alongside @PeterDJust from @RCSLT.
This is urgent. Without access now to the specialist support they need young people with SEND will be at increased risk of poorer outcomes.
New open letter to the Government on the specialist workforce📬With over 110 charities, professional bodies, unions, and others, we’ve written to @GillianKeegan and @SteveBarclay to ask they address gaps in the specialist workforce in the #SENDReview. #SENDInTheSpecialists

Fingers crossed @RishiSunak stays true to his word regarding investment in Early Years. We need more investment in resourcing Speech and Language Therapist working in Early Years to complement this aspiration.
During the summer's @Conservatives' leadership election, speech & language therapist @pennyanneod asked @RishiSunak about #SEND & speech, language & communication.
As the next Prime Minister identified, the #EarlyYears are crucial to prevent long-term negative outcomes.
Children with selective mutism are unable to speak around certain people or in certain settings, it is common that they are very chatty at home with family but silent at school. They may appear disengaged and disinterested, however, it is their fear that stops them from doing...
