With thousands of Orange County residents returning home on Monday evening, local leaders and experts are ensuring that everyone can go home feeling safe. UPDATE: I have been briefed by OCFA that the evacuation area has been reduced and 65 percent of evacuees will be able to return home imminently. I encourage everyone to follow the updated guidance and avoid the updated evacuation zone. While there remains an immediate potential risk in that updated zone, the work of the OC Fire Authority is moving in the right direction. I am grateful for the tireless efforts of the OC Fire Authority, local police, and emergency response professionals to mitigate this crisis and keep our community safe.

I’m happy to share more encouraging news tonight: the evacuation zone has now been reduced to only the immediate area surrounding the facility.
