You obviously weren't to know but this story originated on the Manchester Evening News, investigated and written by @jameshjourno. Unfortunately the BBC ripped it without crediting the source. Sadly this isn't unusual. manchestereveningnews.co.uk/…

Today the front page of the Gazette leads with the story from one of the families affected by the ongoing movement issues near our trees, who say they 'don't want to see the trees chopped' and who, like us, think underpinning will be the best solution.

A satisfying little win here for FOI buffs.... (& for a reporter with no legal counsel going up against specialist lawyers) UK tribunal judge has sided with me in a long-running FOI case against the Information Commissioner's Office, a Govt body that oversees the Act Thread 1/

Today the High Court has granted an interim injunction preventing the felling of 'Old King George', our beloved 170 year old oak in Wivenhoe, and a nearby horse chestnut. This is temporary protection while legal issues are examined. We’ll share updates as soon as we can.

Today we’ve applied to the court for urgent interim relief alongside a Judicial Review, seeking a temporary pause on the proposed felling of Old King George and a horse chestnut. This is a last-resort step to prevent irreversible harm while outstanding issues are considered.

Just posted by Billie-Jean Sweeney, in recognition of Keith Cooper @KeithCooper1973 and Will Stewart @willstewartnews being named ICARS Persons of the Year 2025. Their message means a great deal. Billie-Jean’s history in journalism, from editing the landmark “Deadly Restraint” investigation at the Hartford Courant to their later roles at the Associated Press and the International Desk of The New York Times, gives their perspective real depth. We are deeply grateful for Billie-Jean's past and present support of ICARS, their solidarity, and the way they continue to stand with families and advocates today. #AgainstRestraint

It suggests that painstaking, time consuming, public interest journalism does pay off for news organisations; and more importantly that people do care.

Thanks so much for this, I feel really honoured. But most of the credit should go to @KeithCooper1973, and, as has Keith said, to @ICARSBanRandS for their patience and to all the parents and pupils who were prepared to talk to Keith and rake up such traumatising experiences
