I welcome the Technical Advisory Group’s recognition of the important progress being made in several key geographies across #Pakistan and #Afghanistan where stronger programme performance is helping reduce #poliovirus transmission. These gains demonstrate what is possible when governments, communities, partners and frontline workers come together around a common goal. Last week, I visited #Somalia and was encouraged by the strong commitment of government leaders, partners and frontline health workers to reach every child with life-saving vaccines and to accelerate efforts to #EndPolio. I was honoured to meet H.E. @DrAliHajiadam Minister of Health of Somalia, @sandralattouf of @unicefsomalia, colleagues from @WHOSom, our partners, and the extraordinary health workers serving communities across the country. From homes, marketplaces, churches & temporary settlements, #Zambia last week continued its sub-national polio vaccination campaign, ensuring that every child was reached with polio vaccines. We remain committed to protecting every child against Polio.

On Day1 of Round 2 of the national polio vaccination campaign, 24% of children <5 were reached, over 65,000 doses delivered. As we enter Day 3, let’s keep the momentum going. Parents & caregivers, bring every child for vaccination before 11 June. No child should be left behind

Our teams and frontline health workers in #Somalia are at the heart of our efforts to strengthen immunization services and #EndPolio. I was deeply moved to hear firsthand about their extraordinary work to reach children and communities, often in the face of recurrent drought, insecurity and multiple emergencies. The US Polio Eradication Advocacy Task Force was in Washington D.C. to share our commitment to polio eradication & encourage continued US leadership in the effort. They also presented Rep. Jan Schakowsky with a lifetime service award for her decades long support of #EndPolio.

At #WHA79, Member States from @WHOEMRO reaffirmed their commitment to #EndPolio - the longest-running Public Health Emergency of International Concern. In a time marked by conflict, competing priorities and pressure on global health systems, this shared commitment sends a powerful message: protecting children from polio remains a global priority 🌍➡️

Last month, more than 27 million children across #Afghanistan and #Pakistan received #polio vaccines. The progress we are seeing in both countries demonstrates what is possible through strong political commitment, dedicated frontline workers and sustained partner support. But the coming months will be critical. Success will depend on reaching missed children, sustaining high-quality implementation and maintaining the collective commitment of governments, communities, health workers and partners. Together, we can #EndPolio.
