And we need many many more in 2021 to avoid a car based recovery
Latest stats show an incredible boom in cycling around the country🚴‍♀‍ with a 45% increase in bicycle traffic in 2020 compared to 2019 & 5 BILLION miles travelled by cyclists! Great to see so many people choose more active forms of travel as we continue to #BuildBackGreener

During 2020 we all noticed fewer motor vehicles on our roads. Our quieter roads were filled with people cycling. I was one of them. We have an opportunity to maintain this trend, let's seize it. ❤️🏃🏾‍♀️🚲🦽🛴 @BWMnetwork @ColmorePe @woodthorpeji @WheelersLanePri @SustransWMids

Journey times not significantly affected if traveling by foot, trike, cargobike, cycle or eScooter. #NCN5 #ReaValley currently running with no disruption👍 #trafficalert #transport #Birmingham

⚠️⛔️ Moor Green Lane and Shutlock Lane are CLOSED for water main work until 4th June. This will cause additional congestion around the centre of #KingsHeath and on Pershore Road approaching Edgbaston as traffic diverts. #Birmingham

This week, I asked folks to name an idea in urbanism that they wish got more attention. One caught my eye more than any other: induced demand. It’s got perhaps the least sexy name ever, but it’s vital in understanding how our roads work. So, here’s a thread explaining it.

Drivers Congestion or pollution is not a symptom of cycle lanes or an #LTN Here are nine drivers in single-occupancy private vehicles thinking it's an efficient and sensible choice for transporting a single human across a city. That's your problem, too many vehicles.

See Park Hill in Moseley or numerous other historic filters across the city
Another safe cycle ride using the decades-old Mecklenburgh Street filter in Camden. It creates quiet streets by preventing through traffic from Gray’s Inn Road. But there were no protests or campaign posters, nor have I read any concerns about emergency service access. Why not?

Pedestrianised York Road in the sunshine with places open is even better than expected. The absolute jewel in the crown of the #kingsheath Low Traffic Neighbourhood. Such a buzz last night. Let’s never go back to how it was before please

Great to see. Word seems to spread fast as crossing Station hasn’t been as safe last couple of days with speeding drivers. Let’s hope it stays longer this time 🤞🏻
Guess who's back, back again, Station Road bollard is back, tell a friend! @for_b14 @TAWSociety @KingsHeathCAN @LisaTrickett41 @CllrMikeLeddy

A really good point. The safe route from #kingsheath to city centre along Rea Valley / Route 5 through Balsall Heath / Highgate takes probably double the time it would if you could safely follow the 50 route. Not sure motorists appreciate how much others have to adjust to be safe
