It does frustrate me when youre playing an RPG and have every situational advantage but somehow still fail because of a dice roll. It just doesnt happen. It’d be like if you were addressing a crowd of people that mostly agree with your points and you suddenly got shot in the neck
Dice in DND is asking the universe for an impartial decision to inject spontaneity into a scenario neither player nor DM can predict.
The mental cost of a bad role after great RP feels like a punishment, and the table now has to react to a number rather than the narrative.
