WAIT i'm an idiot and i'm so mad. i was so focused on their using my name i missed that they also used the blurb i officially retracted from their anthology. this blurb isn't even for this book (which i've never read) and regardless they don't have permission to use it.
not "fre/ydΓs mo/on" using my name as a comp for their new book after i pulled my blurb from their anthology πŸ’€

Dactylic hexameter– what The Odyssey was originally written in– is a fucking nightmare to attempt to translate into English. The specific type of meter doesn't affect the narrative, so any poetic meter can be used. Using one that English speakers already associate with classical text like Wilson has done (Iambic pentameter) gives us the flowing, musical pace of the original text in a way that feels natural. Writing a translation with accuracy is more important than using as many big, rare, fancy words as possible. Wilson didn't dumb the original text down, you're just used to the translations by men attempting to look smart.

Also by far the best thing about the Wilson translation is all the writing she’s done explaining and justifying her choices, which you can not like but it’s not like she’s some hack emily613.substack.com/p/on-c…

Nonexperts don’t like the Wilson translation because they’re reacting negatively to the marketing and presentation (fair) and two, they have an idea that Homer should sound β€œepic” β€” somewhere between Shakespeare, Milton and Marvel β€” that is almost completely extratextual

i keep seeing commentary on the blake lively/justin baldoni smear campaign scandal and saying β€œomg what if a bigger actor did this to a smaller one??”… it did… to amber heard and you all laughed in her face while she sobbed on the stand. i will never forget that yall did that.

99% of β€œfaux” leather is actually worse for the environment than buying real leather. Not only is it entirely just plastic, but it will begin to crack and peel after a few months of use. While real leather will last a lifetime if taken care of, and have way less of an impact
