Saw Nick Cave in Paris recently at the Accor Arena and I was really struck by that song Joy where he sings “We’ve all had too much sorrow, now it the time for joy.” I was thinking to myself, yeah that’s about right.

Today, we celebrate Juneteenth. It was on this day in 1865 that Union soldiers landed in Galveston Bay, Texas, with news that the war had ended and that the enslaved people there were now free. This pivotal event took place two and a half years after President Lincoln’s Emancipation Proclamation. Although it has long been celebrated in the African American community, it became a federal holiday in 2021. Happy Juneteenth!

US employers added 303,000 jobs in March -- more than forecasters had expected. Job gains for Jan and Feb were revised up by a total of 22,000. Unemployment dipped to 3.8% in March, even as 469,000 more people joined the workforce. Average wages are up 4.1% over the last year.
