Africa needs to create over 15 million jobs annually to keep up with youth employment demand. The 2026 Inaugural Africa Development Impact Forum (ADIF), organized by @ECA_OFFICIAL, focuses on “Bridging the Implementation Gap: Best Practices and Innovative Solutions for Job Creation in Africa.” @MaMoPanel #YOUTHAHEAD report demonstrates that Africa's agrifood sector provides an important channel for solving the unemployment and underemployment challenges facing the continent’s youth, and strengthening them will reduce poverty and bolster food security. As @AKADEMIYA2063’s Dr. @LButake notes, the continent sits atop an enviable reservoir of human capital. Diversifying education and training programs, addressing trade barriers coupled with technology infrastructure, and mainstreaming youth involvement to ensure that they participate in shaping policy design and programmatic interventions will move the needle. The @_AfricanUnion Kampala CAADP Declaration underscores the urgent need to enhance SPS standards and implement One Health protocols to safeguard food safety and protect human, animal, plant, and environmental health. @AKADEMIYA2063’s Kampala Policy Brief highlights some key recommendations: •Targeted public and private investments are essential. These investments should focus on strengthening knowledge and capacity across agricultural value chains, streamlining certification processes, and developing shared infrastructure to reduce per-unit compliance costs. •Strengthening institutional frameworks, building capacity at the enterprise level, running awareness campaigns, and fostering partnerships among governments, producers, and exporters can collectively ease the SPS compliance burden. #WorldEnvironmentDay2026 Interlocking Africa's Bioeconomy and Climate Change Agendas for Climate Action! Africa's bioeconomy can ignite economic transformation and help to combat the rising challenge of climate change, delivering new jobs, food security, improved nutrition, and environmental resilience for Africans across the continent. Our 16th Annual Trends and Outlook Report explores the challenges posed by the climate crisis for Africa's agrifood systems and the opportunities offered by a transition to a bioeconomy to mitigate and adapt to its adverse impacts. Transitioning to a bioeconomy would require clear strategies aligned with climate change targets and priorities. This would entail creating a conducive environment to enable emerging companies to innovate, providing the training and education needed to drive a bioeconomy transition, and cooperating across borders. AI #NowForClimate! AI can enhance climate action by enabling early warning systems for drought and floods, optimizing irrigation, forecasting crop yields, and monitoring forest cover and carbon stocks, with high spatial and temporal resolution. It can also improve efficiency in energy systems, urban planning, and public service delivery. However, risks such as algorithmic bias, job displacement, privacy concerns, and the potential misuse of AI for surveillance or the dissemination of disinformation exist. These risks must be addressed through ethical governance frameworks and investment in African capacity to develop, adapt, and audit AI systems. At this year’s edition of the @wto Trade and Environment Week (June 1-5), WTO Members and stakeholders will discuss trade and environment. Trade can support climate change mitigation and adaptation in Africa's agricultural sector, according to our 7th Africa Agriculture Trade Monitor (AATM). The report analyzes trade performance amid pressure points from climate change, water use, and carbon emissions, with recommendations for sustainable practices. AATM #7 also examines how trade can mitigate the environmental impacts of economic activities. The authors call for policies that leverage trade to support climate adaptation, notably by strategically leveraging countries' comparative advantages. As @DrOBadiane, Executive Chairperson of @AKADEMIYA2063, puts it: "Agriculture is the main channel through which climate change disrupts African economies, but it is also the sector with the biggest potential to lead adaptation to climate change." Strengthening inclusive agrifood systems under the @_AfricanUnion #KampalaDeclaration! The 17th @ReSAKSS #ATOR highlights the growing role of digital advisory services in delivering context-specific agronomic information and advancing sustainable land management across Africa. A key example is the AgriPath Project, whose @farm_better platform combines geolocation tools and the WOCAT database to provide tailored recommendations to smallholder farmers across multiple countries. 📍Catch up with @AKADEMIYA2063’s Dr. @DebisiAraba at the AgriPath Symposium 2026 (May 27–28, Nairobi), where policymakers, researchers, innovators, and investors will explore what works in designing and scaling digital advisory systems for Africa’s agrifood transformation. 🔗 ATOR insights: resakss.org/node/6931 🔗 agripath.net/symposium @icipe #AgriPathConsortium @SwissDevCoop @giz_gmbh

How can Sanitary and Phytosanitary (#SPS) systems move beyond compliance to drive #agriculture development, #trade, #nutrition, #resilience, and stronger partnerships across Africa? "SPS is not merely a technical requirement. It is part of an economic infrastructure of agri-food transformation. It determines whether food is safe, whether livestock and fish value chains are resilient, whether borders facilitate or limit trade, whether outbreaks are contained, whether exporters remain competitive, and whether investors can see a predictable operating environment." --Mr. John Oppong-Otoo, Coordinator, @au_ibar SPS Standards under the Kampala CAADP Declaration: Enhancing Awareness and Reducing the Cost of Compliance: doi.org/10.54067/kpbs.16 Replay the session: youtu.be/oZKcCpFXOQo?t=662
