Today on Trans Day of Remembrance we remember those who have lost their lives to transphobic violence, and reflect on how we as a society can end this loss of life. Liberal Democrats will always stand up for the rights of everyone in the LGBT community.

Until 2000, the Armed Forces had a ban on LGBT personnel, who could be discharged or face criminal prosecution. @JessBrownFuller has won action from the Government to speed up compensation for LGBT veterans who lost their jobs and were stripped of their pensions.

📣 Government Acts Following My Debate on LGBT Veterans Scheme 🇬🇧🌈 After leading a debate in Parliament yesterday on delays to the LGBT Veterans Financial Recognition Scheme, the Government has now announced plans to speed up its delivery. ✅ Almost doubling the number of staff handling applications ✅ Doubling the sittings of the Independent Panel for complex cases It was a privilege to welcome Liz Stead to Westminster for the debate. Liz was dismissed from the RAF in 1969 when letters from her girlfriend were discovered — a powerful reminder of the injustice so many faced. I’m pleased that the Veterans Minister has taken on board the concerns of veterans and campaigners. I hope these steps by the MOD will finally deliver the timely and fair resolution our veterans deserve.

Congrats to the volunteers at Highland Pride! Many across the LGBTQ community feel targeted and their rights threatened by divisive culture wars. While today was a lot of fun, it was also a show of strength. We must never stop fighting for everyone's rights to be who they are!

On the 7th of June, 1954, Alan Turing died. He was discovered the following day. His birthday would have been the 23rd of June. He had opted for chemical castration following his conviction for homsexuality and indecency. Now, of course, we celebrate June as Pride Month. 1/3
