We’re proud to have worked with partners including the British Armed Forces to deliver this successful operation.
In the early hours of this morning, I directed our Armed Forces to intercept a shadow fleet oil tanker attempting to pass through the English Channel. This successful operation delivers yet another blow to Russia and reminds those fueling Putin's war in Ukraine that we will not let them hide. I want to thank those involved, including our Armed Forces and law enforcement officers who keep this country safe 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

The more Starmer delivers, the louder his critics become. They promised strength; he showed it. They promised leadership; he demonstrated it. At a time of global uncertainty, Britain needs a PM willing to make tough calls, not politicians obsessed with political games. The results speak for themselves.

"Not scared of gunfire" what a stupid thing to say! Maybe his boss @JohnHealey_MP should have filled him in on what was going on. Lack of communication within the department , sounds like! #StandByStarmer 🌹

Over this weekend I signed off a request for military assistance - to assist and enable the National Crime Agency to board a Russian shadow fleet tanker travelling through the English Channel. Our brave Royal Marine Commandos boarded the vessel in the early hours of this morning in a highly professional operation. We have the finest armed forces and law enforcement capabilities in the world. This is a massive blow to Putin. bbc.co.uk/news/articles/clye…

Operations like this require skill, professionalism and courage. I pay tribute to our Armed Forces personnel and all those involved. Russia relies on its shadow fleet to fund their conflict in Ukraine and our interdiction delivers another blow to Putin's illegal war.

When he became Prime Minister, I was skeptical, to be he lacked character, and seemed very onward thinking. Boy, how wrong was I, never voted Labour in my life, but now thanks to @Keir_Starmer , he has impressed me so much I am now a member of @UKLabour

It's becoming increasingly clear Burnham is afraid of a leadership contest. Perhaps that's because he's already lost twice? His fear must be, even if he does win, exposing his flip floppery in the contest that will damage him and mean he'll be a lame duck PM with no mandate.

Andy Burnham says Makerfield is "stage one" of changing Labour. That phrase deserves closer attention. Because it reveals something important. At the very moment Britain faces the most challenging international environment in a generation, while Europe rearms, NATO demands increase and economic pressures remain acute, Burnham is talking about changing Labour. Keir Starmer is talking about changing Britain. There is a difference. A profound difference. Burnham's argument begins with the assumption that Labour's biggest problem is itself. Starmer's argument begins with the reality that Britain's biggest problems are outside Westminster. The NHS backlog. Economic growth. Housing. Skills. National security. Public services weakened by fourteen years of Conservative government. One leader is focused on the Labour Party. The other is focused on the country. Burnham speaks of a "cry for change". But Britain already voted for change. That happened at the General Election. The question now is not whether Britain wants change. The question is whether Britain has the patience to see change delivered. Because rebuilding a country is not a slogan. It is not a campaign. It is not a rallying cry. It is hard decisions.
Hard trade-offs.
Hard choices. The politics of opposition asks: "What would people like to hear?" The responsibility of government asks: "What can actually be delivered?" That is the challenge Keir Starmer faces every day. Defence or welfare? Tax rises or borrowing? Immediate demands or long-term investment? Every decision creates critics. Every priority disappoints someone. That is not weakness. That is governing. What is striking about Burnham's intervention is that he speaks as though Labour's greatest threat comes from Keir Starmer. Yet the real threat remains the same as it was twelve months ago: A divided progressive vote. A resurgent populist right. An electorate that has lost faith in politics altogether. History offers a lesson. Parties rarely lose power because they fail to debate. They lose power because they become consumed by debating themselves. The Conservatives spent years arguing about Conservatives. The public moved on. Labour should learn from that mistake, not repeat it. The irony is that Burnham says Labour must become more formidable against the right. Yet public leadership contests, internal warfare and endless speculation about succession are precisely the conditions in which the right thrives. The public rarely rewards parties that appear obsessed with themselves. They reward parties that appear obsessed with solving problems. That is why the real choice facing Labour is not Burnham or Starmer. It is politics or progress. Drama or delivery. Ambition or achievement. Campaigning or governing. Keir Starmer inherited a country weakened by years of instability. His task is not to win arguments inside Labour. His task is to rebuild Britain. And history will not ask who gave the most compelling speeches about change. History will ask who delivered it. #KeirStarmer #LabourGovernment #UKPolitics

Fab news
I'm pleased the BMA has called off strikes next week. That’s good news for patients, all NHS staff, and the taxpayer.

Starmer is showing real leadership in refusing to give in to the Corbynistras & the RW media. Standing firm to avoid the sort of chaos & instability the Tories wrought. He is made of much stronger stuff than the likes of Healey or Burnham, who put themselves before the country.

How long has James Murray been Health Sec and he's managed to achieve this...in a month
The BMA has called off the unnecessary resident doctor strikes which were due to start on Monday 15 June. This is good news for patients, staff and the NHS. We'll work with the BMA over the coming days to finalise the details of the deal before it is put to their members.

I respect your position, but there is a lot to be said for Starmer’s resolve to stay the course in the country’s interest. He’d had less than 2 years to deliver in the wake of the abysmal mess left by the Tories. Stability is important for long term economic success.
