Ghana's youth are speaking out against an industry that has deliberately targeted them — hooking them on e-cigarettes, shisha, and nicotine products designed to create a new generation of addicts. Watch. Listen. Act. #WorldNoTobaccoDay2026

As climate change increasingly shapes health outcomes across Africa, keeping health at the centre of climate policy, financing, and action is more urgent than ever. The Climate and Health Advocacy Report 2025 highlights #Amref's bold leadership in elevating Africa’s voice globally and driving climate-resilient, people-centred health systems. This report captures a year of high-impact engagement. It covers events from the Africa Climate Summit, UN General Assembly, and World Health Summit to COP30 in Brazil. It also celebrates major milestones, including the first-ever Climate and Health Negotiators’ Curriculum for the African Group of Negotiators, the Africa Climate and Health Playbook, and the expansion of the Pan-African Partnership on Climate and Health. Every year, Big Tobacco earns nearly $1 trillion while the world pays $1.4 trillion in tobacco-related costs. We pay with our lives, health, and taxes. VAST Ghana stands with @StopCorpAbuse and advocates worldwide — calling on Ghana's government to #MakeBigTobaccoPay

The @fdaghana has revealed a staggering revealtion at the launch of the TTAA project with @TaxJusticeAfric : Ghanaian women and girls are taking up shisha and e-cigarettes at higher rates than men. Higher taxes on these harmful products are effective tools we have to push back

Nothing scares Big Tobacco more than higher taxes. A 10% price increase leads to 4% drop in tobacco consumption in Ghana. Yet tobacco costs our economy over GH¢668 million yearly #RaiseTobaccoTaxesNow #ExciseTaxSaveLives #VASTGhana #TaxJustice #NCDs #ExciseTaxforHealth

#RoadtoWNTD26 Tobacco and nicotine companies deliberately design their products to hook you. Sugars, flavours, and cooling agents all mask the harshness of nicotine so you inhale more, and get addicted faster. But the grip of addiction can be broken.

💪"Leadership on NCDs doesn’t only come from government ministries or global institutions, but already exists within communities," write Jennifer Bae and Kasey Fizer from American College of Cardiology. "The challenge is recognising it, resourcing it, and scaling it." In their blog, they ✅explore the challenges that #healthworkers, especially community health workers, who are often on the front lines of the NCD response, face, ✅and describe how the ACC is helping address them to support accountability following #HLM4. The 4th UN General Assembly Declaration on #NCDs and #mentalhealth officially recognizes dementia as a global public health priority. The challenge now is moving from rhetoric to action. To truly integrate #dementia prevention into health systems, a focus on upstream, population-level strategies that do not rely solely on individual responsibility is essential. Here are three measurable opportunities @TheLancetPH to make this a reality: 🧠 Integrate, don't isolate Mainstream dementia risk reduction into existing NCD and Universal Health Coverage #UHC strategies. This requires financed plans with clear indicators that prioritize low-agency, scalable measures to avoid widening health inequities. 🫀 Go beyond cardiometabolic health While heart #health is key, effective dementia prevention demands focus on often-underrepresented areas like education access, #brain injury prevention, and hearing loss management to ensure a truly comprehensive NCD approach. 📊 Close the accountability gap With only 26% of countries having a national dementia plan, interoperable surveillance systems are needed. By 2030, at least 80% of countries should track dementia-specific indicators (disaggregated by equity factors) to ensure delivery matches commitment. thelancet.com/journals/lanpu…
