Enduring Earth at #AgreementToAction event: 2 years ago we made a pledge to work with all stewards of the environment to protect our planet. Here’s how we are doing ⬇️
✅ Together, we have raised (so far) more than $500 million for durable conservation and leveraged over $700 million from governments.
🌎 11 project finance for permanence (PFP) initiatives are in development in 10 countries, that will protect more than 300 million hectares of our planet.
🌱 Working with more than 90 partners we are building a global, just, and inclusive PFP community.

Will be interesting to see how sustainable financing is discussed at the Summit, with the focus on mobilizing innovative financing for countries vulnerable to climate change.

"Issues on finance are never easily agreed. A useful outcome would involve more money in the system, getting the money to where it needs to go, and getting that done in a fairly quick manner" Sharon Lindo, @AOSISChair, shared at #NewGlobalFinancingPactaxios.com/2023/06/22/paris-c…
Announcement @OurOceanPanama:
"There is a disconnect between communities and financing. But philanthropy can play a role to help.
Today @BloombergDotOrg and @ArcadiaFund are announcing $51 million to directly support community work for #30x30@anthawilliams at #OurOcean2023
Happy World Wildlife Day! This year also marks the 50th anniversary of the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species
The 2023 theme is 'Partnerships for wildlife conservation' which is at the heart of achieving an Enduring Earth
A special day for nature
#WWD2023
ALT March 3, 2023, marks the 50th anniversary of the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species - so it is a very special day for nature. The CITES treaty was signed on 3 March 1973 and to date has helped protect thousands of species of plants and wildlife. But bolder action is needed if we are going to set biodiversity - on land and in the ocean - on a path for recovery.
Inspiring words from @juanmonterreyg at #OurOcean
We must:
Get rid of fishing subsidies, fueling overfishing
Eliminate fossil fuel subsidies driving climate change
Enact a global moratorium on deep sea mining
Panamá is the land that bridges 2 oceans, we are ready to help
As the #OneForestSummit gets underway in Gabon - @AFP shares the numbers
🌳 cover 31% of global land area

🐘 home to 2/3 of all mammals

DYK: Wetlands contribute $47.4 trillion annually to human health, happiness, and security
However we are losing wetlands 3x faster than forests
We need to restore these carbon-rich blue ecosystems for nature, people and climate

New report: As global risks become more intertwined, preparedness needs to become more of a shared responsibility - rather than using traditional models of addressing failures when they occur

NEW: 2023 Global Risks Report suggests averting tipping points requires a combination of conservation efforts, accelerated and nature-positive climate mitigation, interventions to transform food systems, and inclusive, just and equitable change to consumption and production #WEF
The deal would roughly double biodiversity financing to $200 billion a year from all sources: governments, the private sector and philanthropy. It earmarks up to $30 billion per year to flow to poor countries from wealthy nations.

Historic agreement for nature:
The banner commitment calls on nations to collectively conserve for wildlife at least 30 percent of land, inland waterways, and coastal and ocean areas by 2030 — the promise dubbed “30 by 30.”

“Implementing the Global Biodiversity Framework is bigger than any one organization - we need to work together, and we need lasting resources. PFPs are one of the best models to do this”
@CristianSamper at #EnduringEarth event, #COP15
“It’s not just about conservation - it’s about a whole lot more
PFPs are about all of us looking at the social, cultural, infrastructure and environmental needs - for long term protection”
