There is a lot of excitement at the moment about using AI to personalise learning resources, but I am not convinced. Yes, it is true many students are interested in Taylor Swift & Lionel Messi more than electricity, algebra or verbs. That does not mean we can teach electricity, algebra and verbs through the medium of Swift & Messi. substack.nomoremarking.com/p…

@MrZachG on Project Follow Through: "it's a tragedy and there's no good ending so we'll move to the next slide." 😅 This wasn't the next slide, but I thought it was a better one to share. @researchED_US Houston was 💯

Robert Pondiscio: 19 reasons that knowledge-rich curricula have not been broadly adopted in the US, despite strong research support. I'd add this one: "educators underestimate what young children can learn, and the joy with which they will learn it." open.substack.com/pub/thenex…

When referrals to sp. education are the only solution to pervasive learning gaps, we end up w/ an overwhelmed special education system that stretches beyond its limits and helps to close the learning gap of a few kids. I wish more people would listen to the wisdom of @PCSnow1604
Why more diagnoses are not the answer to what's happening in classrooms: "If there’s a lesson here, it may be this: In responding to the complexity of modern childhood, the most effective solutions may not be entirely new. They may lie, in part, in returning to the conditions under which children have always learned to think, relate and grow." Excellent piece by Prof Nicole Rhinehart & Chloe Emonson via @EducationHQ_AU

One week to go until data collection begins for my training study. After months of planning, preparation, and refining materials, it's starting to feel very real.. Looking forward to getting into schools and seeing the project come to life. @ACUmedia #EducationResearch #Literacy

Morphology is more than prefixes and suffixes. Over half of the academic words in English are derived from Greek and Latin word roots (eg tract = drag or pull and found in words such as “traction, tractor, contract, retract, abstraction, protractor, extract…).

A @jackie_french_ story is always a rivetting read and often informative too!
Forget all about the hussy with the fantastic hairdo. Look beyond the myth and find the real Cleopatra: brilliant, library loving...and 12 years old. Three years later she'd made herself Pharoah of the wealthiest nation in the world. Warning: also contains pirates and crocodiles.

Thank you @PCSnow1604. What an amazing opportunity for our students to be able to demonstrate their skills and knowledge to @JasonClareMP and @BenCarrollMP. I'm so very proud of @KEWoodsy, she was more worried about teaching in front of Pam and @tserry2504 ! Thank you @latrobe
It was an honour today to welcome federal Education Minister @JasonClareMP and Vic Education Minister @BenCarrollMP to @latrobe to see a demonstration of high quality explicit teaching courtesy of the fabulous team at @tempyheightsps led by principal @rhyssy33. The Year 4 students were the star of the show 🙌

With the Victorian Deputy Premier and Minister for Education @BenCarrollMP today at La Trobe Uni to see their simulated classroom for teaching students in action. This year we have changed what our future teachers are taught as part of their university degree. This includes a stronger focus on how the brain works, how to teach children to read and write and count, and how to manage classroom behaviour. La Trobe has led the way with the science of learning and evidence-based teaching. That is embedded in the new curriculum for teaching students and is a key part of the reforms we are rolling out across the country. This facility here at La Trobe is one of a kind in Australia and helps take that training to the next level.
