The Loan Charge’s Shadow
They promised wealth, they promised gain,
A clever way to ease the strain.
They said, “It’s legal, tried and true,
A tax-efficient path for you.”
And so we worked, we toiled, we strived,
Through schemes that many had contrived.
Each penny earned, each pound was paid,
Yet now they say we must be flayed.
Years have passed—no word, no sound,
Till HMRC came around.
With letters cold, demands so steep,
A debt revived from dungeons deep.
They rewrite rules, they shift the blame,
Yet those who signed bear all the shame.
The ones who sold it walk away,
While we must fight or somehow pay.
Some lost their homes, some lost their health,
Some even broke beneath the stealth
Of taxmen wielding iron chains,
Dismissing pleas, ignoring pains.
Where is the justice? Where’s the right?
To rewrite law in dead of night,
To hunt the past with fresh decree,
And crush the lives of those like me?
A fair tax law, we do not spurn,
But rules must stay, not twist and turn.
We stand as one, we make it known—
No more shall debt be falsely sown.
