This is Israel: A diverse, open, and free society. Israel is the only country in the Middle East where members of the LGBTQ community can live openly and safely. Employment discrimination on the grounds of sexual orientation is illegal. All people can openly serve in all branches of the Israeli military. This is the open and inclusive Jewish home that we love. Thank you to our host, Sara Friedman, CEO of WJC-Israel and North America, for being our host through Tel Aviv Pride.

Anne Frank was born on June 12, 1929. In a humane world, she could have been celebrating her 97th birthday. But her world was neither just nor humane. Her brief life was tragically cut short by the barbarism of the Nazi regime. For generations, her words have helped us understand the tragic loss of potential in every human life that was taken from us during the Holocaust. Today, the same kind of vile antisemitism that was a precursor to the Holocaust has experienced a resurgence.

The Israeli pride flag represents something powerful: the freedom to live openly, authentically, and without fear. 🌈🇮🇱 In a region where LGBTQ rights cannot be taken for granted, Israel is the one place where they can march proudly.

Marie Wilcox realized she was the last person on Earth who could speak the Wukchumni language fluently, so at 82, she taught herself to use a computer and spent seven years typing a 6,000-word Wukchumni dictionary, the first written record of the language in history, to save it from extinction.
