In super exciting news, my first publication is out on the 1st of September! If you’re into Australian book publishing, Tumblr poetry, or me making academic jokes about biomechanical horses, you should grab a copy 🎉🎉
So... is Normal People just the romance novel for any girl who didn’t live their emotionally unavailable lit boy fantasy to its inevitable far less glamouros conclusion?

I mean, the writing is great but it also definitely falls into that classic trap of living life ‘artistically’ rather than happily. Every second moment made me furious at the characters who cared more about their idea of themselves than just communicating like adult humans.

In a world that’s starting to engage with young activists, who understand the terrifying parts of our world and choose to fight it, this stood out to me. Children are aware of violence, aware of assault, aware of the challenges of climate change. Their books should be too.

These are some great places to look for contemporary Australian poetry. I've got @GiramondoBooks Aqua Spinach sitting in my TBR pile at the moment and just reading the name is like an epic fever dream.

Amie Kaufman clearly didn’t spend a summer working at a theme park. Stay gold Ponyboy.

Decisions. Was less drawn to read Three Women when I found out that the whiteness of its' cover was reflected in the whiteness of the three women interviewed inside, but now the Bloomsbury cover is this gorgeous still-life and what are the ethics of just having it on my shelf?

Update: I bought it. Now looking for recommendations on books that have deep dives into the sex lives of anyone other than cis white women. Officially covered in the cis white woman department.

Amelia Westlake starts with small rebellions that quickly become a revolution. Focussing on female solidarity and romance, it's a reminder that all too often, girls fight sexism, homophobia and trauma from a young age. @ErinOnFridays @HGEgmont. litsponge.com/2019/08/04/vig…

Just a timely reminder that literary canon has actively not included diverse narratives for yonks. The value of a book is not in whether traditional review platforms give it prominence. theguardian.com/books/2019/f…

I see you there Too Much Lip, enjoy the sun in Madras. You'll definitely get more there than at the top of my TBR pile. #bookdiplomacy

Something tangible you can do about the lack of diversity in Australian books. Crowdfund this awesome effort to count the number of books published by First Nations and POC writers (in fiction, nonfiction, children's, YA and poetry) in 2018.
