During the filming of the scene where Barabbas is released and he meets Jesus face to face (played by Jim Caviezel), the actor Pietro Sarubbi(who played Barrabas), later testified that when their eyes met, he experienced something he could not explain.
He said:
“When our eyes met I felt a sort of surge…
It was like I was really seeing Jesus.”
He went on to say that in that moment he saw no hatred, only mercy and love, and that the experience led to a real life conversion during the filming of the movie.
Before the film, Sarubbi had spent years searching spiritually, living in a Tibetan monastery, practicing meditation in India, and traveling widely, but after acting in that role he said:
“I have reached the final goal of this search in Jesus.”
After The Passion:
He became a committed Christian.
He wrote a testimony book about his conversion (From Barabbas to Jesus: Converted by a Glance).
He began teaching acting and public speaking.
He does charity work, even performing as a clown for orphaned children.
He lives with his family on a farm near Milan.
He had a personal encounter, not with Jim Caviezel, but with the real Jesus Christ, Himself!!
Praise God!!
