That's utterly scary. I trained as a nurse before medicine. I wanted to practice medicine, so I went to medical school. Nursing, at *any* level, is not medicine. I cannot be clear enough about this. Nursing is a profession in its own right. Qualification in one discipline doesn't transfer to another. No matter how much people might want it to. And no, before anyone asks, nursing is not a prerequisite to medicine.

No signature. No assessment. Not even a clear recommendation, just something to "consider". No referral from a healthcare professional should be responded to like this, it's an absolute disgrace.
Fed up. Just spent 14 weeks at @nottsinquiry didn’t miss a minute as this was all I could do in my daughter Grace’s name against all those who failed. Get to my desk and this is what I’m greeted with……

Serious questions are being raised about NHS waiting list figures after a sharp rise in patients being removed from waiting lists without treatment. In March alone, more than 350,000 patients were removed. I asked Ministers, why? A thread 🧵 1/12

There was due to be a protest at City Hall here, but we now have visitors to the city getting photos with a well-known PSNI officer... 🤣📸

Isn’t this the same place that is rife with Dr substitution? Telling that you switch of replies to your posts.
Out today in my own stomping ground meeting the new CEO of St George's! He and the team are working to reduce waiting lists and ensure every patient receives the best possible care. Best of all is a new garden for patients being treated for brain injuries to aid their recovery!

No healthcare worker should be afraid to go to work or fear being targeted because of their ethnicity. Our health service relies on the dedication of a diverse workforce who make an invaluable contribution to caring for our communities. I stand with all those affected.

I would like to talk about this document, which was sent to consultation by stakeholders by FICM. It’s a “scope” document for ACCPs, who are medically unqualified individuals being increasingly used to replace ITU SHO/SpRs across NHS hospitals 1/

The 10YP says that Med School should be shortened to 4yrs for UG and 3yrs of GME. This WOULD make UK grads unemployable anywhere else.

The GMC’s barrister said in court “patient safety was an objective not a duty” & they didn’t want to set a scope for assistants b/c “it might negatively impact their employment prospects” All whilst 1/2 of trusts are substituting non-doctors onto our rotas This is good advice👇
Having read the @gmcuk Outcomes for Graduates of Medical Schools, I suggest all UK Medical Students sit USA exams, USMLE. There's a serious danger UK Medical Qualifications might not be recognised outside UK - so little emphasis on Medical Knowledge & Expertise. @DrLKVaughan

@CwmTafMorgannwg In the middle of a Welsh physician assistant scandal … why are you advertising for a physician assistant to work dangerously in Acute Medicine as a substitute Dr ? Why are you paying them £50k ? @WGHealthandCare @RhunapIorwerth @Plaid_Cymru @natasghar

Hospital doctors in Northern Ireland have voted in favour of industrial action in a dispute over pay. Two separate 24-hour walkouts will take place later in June. The Health Minister says he's disappointed at the outcome of the ballot.

The GMC regulates doctors, not institutions. That's the gap. Systemic failures get buried while individuals take the fall.

1/ Wow @PHSOmbudsman 🤬 Is this the best you can do to describe the appalling mistreatment/harm of a 5yr old by a non-medically qualified HCP & the abject failure of the ‘supervising GP’ & pharmacist to pick it up👇🏼? What’s the point of your existence? @Jeremy_Hunt @LaylaMoran
A five-year-old was prescribed the wrong treatment after a breakdown in communication between healthcare professionals. Our investigation found failings at every stage and that better communication could have prevented this entirely. Read more: orlo.uk/XmzUI

Why is he still in post?
Charlie Massey: “I’m sorry, with the benefit of hindsight” to the Parliamentary Select Committee, on PA/AA regulation. Hindsight? Doctors and patient-groups spent years warning the GMC and campaigning relentlessly! Incompetence or insolence? Or both? thedoctor.bma.org.uk/article…

If he failed at distinguishing between medically qualified & medically unqualified people, which is the literal job of the GMC, & indeed went on insist that PAs and AAs should be called as “Medical Professionals” by the GMC, and he realises this is wrong, why is he still in post?

Why are these recurring themes? Cause harm. Coverup. No accountability. Rinse and repeat. Where is the GMC?
I am with you. I was open minded until I started working with them and they nearly killed 2 of my patients and harmed another 3. None of them were held accountable for their incompetence and it was all covered up. My patients were so angry when they realised what had gone on.

Because the role substitution programme won’t work if you define what they can and can’t do. Then you’ll have to justify and evidence competence, which invites scrutiny. Then it all falls apart.

During Covid hospitals shifted to disposable cups / plates / knives and forks. In staff rooms / cafes and canteens. It continues today. I wonder how much money is spent on this stuff that all goes into the bin and into landfill?
