I live right by Heaton Park. If you're an Oasis fan and don't want to fork out £100s for a place to kip, you can camp in my garden. For free. The only condition is that you get a ticket for me too. I'll pay for it, and I'll even throw in brews, breakfast and a driveway.

I’m no fan of Starmer .. but he and the government have made the RIGHT choice Social media is a cess pit for adults .. never mind children If you think they aren’t affected by the things they see online .. then you’re naive .. and imo .. part of the problem

It’s eye-opening just how many adults on X *really* want children on social media, compared to parents (even millennial) who are breathing a sigh of relief for the ban Sad for the screen-raised guinea pig generation, but hopeful the next might actually have a shot at a childhood

If you're an adult raging on X about the ban on social media for under-16 kids, then you need your hard drive checked.

Let's be clear: nobody is stopping a 15-year-old from studying. Younger kids have YouTube Kids(which can be expanded), & teenagers can access GCSE clips without an account. By enforcing a "no-login" rule, they strip away the predatory profiling, likes, & algorithmic rabbit holes that harm children, while keeping the educational video player completely open for revision. There is no war against GCSCE revision. Just another thing an algorithm can trick you into believing. There are valid arguments against the ban, this isn't one of them.
This mean students up to Year 11 will not be able to revise GCSE biology on Freesciencelessons YouTube channel. This also mean a 15 years and 364 days old not be able to read Facebook posts from their MP or councillor, but expected to vote for them tomorrow.

I don’t care if Keir Starmer genuinely cares or not - this is a positive and empowers ALL parents to say NO! -1 in 4 children in the UK show problematic smartphone usage consistent with behavioural addiction -Excessive screen time in children is strongly linked to a higher risk of depressive symptoms -Online child grooming is increasing at alarming rates globally, with experts declaring it a public health emergency -Heavy phone use reduces the quality and quantity of in person family interaction -Smartphone use erodes concentration by shrinking your baseline attention span and causing "brain drain"
Yh I’m sure the guy who tried to implement digital id for all adults and getting push back from everyone is now suddenly caring about online safety for under 16s that requires ALL adults to confirm their ID.

Some people may her stare at a wall comment and find it sad, but children need to be bored. They need to think freely and use that time to be creative. Social media absorbs time that should be spent on kids being kids. As for 9 hours, I know many of my pupils far exceed that.

Suggesting that the only alternative to being online for 9 hours is ‘staring at a wall’ is the best argument ever for getting kids away from screens in order to rediscover what the real world is.
Everything about this clip is brilliant.

BBC: “What was your screen time?” Student: “Nine hours.” BBC: “You’re gong to have a lot more time to fill. What will you do?” Student: “Stare at a wall.”

The kid saying she'll now have to "stare at a wall" for nine hours a day without social media is the best response for the case to banning it... Time to get creative with some hobbies!

Buses are shit, driving lessons cost a fortune, insurance companies screw you if you pass, younger people are screwed on minimum wages lower than their colleagues…it’s not a bedroom generation, it’s a locked in generation who can’t afford the key to get out.
🚨 NEW: A Government review has found employers must adapt to the "bedroom generation" of unemployed 16-24 year olds by offering more flexibility It says they're "not snowflakes or faking it" and their anxiety and depression is linked to growing up on social media [@thetimes]

Yes!! This is such a crucial point. We talk endlessly about “the basics” as if they only mean paying the bills. But real life isn’t just about survival, it’s about living. The ability to let go and create memories on holiday shouldn’t be a luxury, it’s a basic human need. Everyone deserves those moments of joy and freedom. They’re what make the hard parts worth it.
"People can't afford life's basics, they can't afford a few pints at the weekend, they can't afford a holiday". Andy Burnham tells @DanielHewittITV the public are right to tell politicians to "do better". Watch in full: youtube.com/watch?v=8_NVkozk…

Actually, different salaries should only affect how luxurious your life is, not your food quality or ability to afford rent. If you work 40 hours at any job, your income should be enough to live in the town you work in. Thinking otherwise is an abysmal indicator of your humanity.
What unpopular opinion will have you like this ?
