Funny how some politicians in Northern Ireland now lecture everyone about protests, disorder and “responsibility” when they publicly backed and funded the Minnesota Freedom Fund during the George Floyd riots in 2020.
This wasn’t simply support for peaceful protest.
It was a bail fund for those arrested during the riots. A fund later heavily criticised after individuals accused of violent offences, rioting and weapons charges were bailed out.
No responsible politician should support violence.
But people are entitled to question the double standards from politicians who supported this in America, yet take a very different tone when unrest happens closer to home.
The hypocrisy is staggering.

Sinn Féin’s Willie Clarke is a perfect example of how the party is framing the Belfast attempted beheading.
Instead of addressing immigration policy, vetting or how the attacker got here, the focus is repeatedly shifted to NHS workers and racism.
It’s a manipulative form of framing. By constantly linking immigration to NHS staff, politicians ‘encourage’ people to associate immigration with the nurse who cared for them or the doctor who helped a loved one. The debate stops being about policy, vetting or numbers and becomes about personal feelings of gratitude.
That’s an effective way of changing how people think about an issue without actually addressing the concerns being raised, shifting the debate from facts to emotions to avoid answering any real question……… maith thú 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

Many of the political figures at yesterday’s so-called “anti-fascist” rallies are completely detached from the reality of working-class communities.
Most are rarely seen in these areas unless it’s to condemn people, pose for a photograph or push a political narrative, then disappear again.
Real leadership is about actually showing up. Listening. Helping people. Giving the community a voice. Standing beside them when things are difficult.
Too many in politics today would rather lecture working-class people than engage with them.
They dismiss genuine concerns, talk down to local communities and then wonder why people feel ignored.
I’ll always choose being on the ground, representing local people and making a real contribution over platform politics and virtue signalling.
