California universities dropped the SAT to help COVER UP the miserable education outcomes from the failed K-12 system from which applicants come! Year after year, governor after governor, over half of our kids can't read or do math at basic levels of proficiency, & these numbers soar to 70-80% for low-income minority kids. This is a civil rights crisis because education is the key to the American Dream. Enough! As Lt Governor, who will serve on every board of higher education in CA, I call upon @UC_Regents to immediately adopt SAT criteria and work with me in establishing a TK-16 Education Pipeline to end these stark achievement gaps once and for all. Schools can no longer just push and promote kids through a failed system to protect the pensions & perks of the adults. School choice must be made available for all. Teacher contracts must include meritocracy & linking pay to student outcomes. Contracts must ensure that high-quality teachers are assigned – with bonus pay – to challenged communities. Lifetime tenure laws must be changed.
