Fellow polar region lovers, a community letter of concern has been written to address the imminent gap in polar altimetry that is likely to occur in the latter half of this decade. Please sign the letter by 16/11 to support the effort. docs.google.com/document/d/1…

Many members of the #MAGICDML team have been to Dronning Maud Land for research prior to our 2016/2017 and 2017/2018 field seasons. @AStroeven was part of a Polarstern research cruise in 1989/1990. He collected a few stamps from the research stations and vessels. #FlashbackFriday

Mapping the glacial deposits and landforms is essential for understanding the past ice sheet extent and guiding the field campaigns. This paper focuses on the mapping of western Dronning Maud Land and the insights it provided on ice thickness changes in the area.

Thanks to Jane we have the first results from the second field season! More are slowly on their way due to the combined efforts of Allie, Sarah, Jane and a lab-technician at SUERC, Glasgow! The video: Heavy Liquid Separation Stage

Happy #TeacherTuesday! One question we get asked is what happens to the rock samples that are collected. We extract the beryllium and aluminum and press that material into tiny targets, which you can see Jane doing here. #science #geology #geography #glaciology #scienceteacher

This #FieldworkFriday is a #Throwback to earlier this year when 3 members of our team were at the Tarfala Research station and Calle organised a climate march. We are proud of their demonstration, and highlighting the importance of taking #climatechange seriously!

For this #TeacherTuesday, Jenny was asked about the living situation on the ice. No igloos were involved, but check out our previously posted video of Robin giving a tour of the living modules! #magicdml #science #scienceteacher #teacher

#TeacherTuesday we feature Arjen giving his #Karthaus lecture on reconstructing #IceSheets and #Glaciers using #geomorphology together with CN surface exposure dating. Along with Arjen, Martim was also in attendance at Karthaus! Check out our most recent blog post on our website!

Today's throwback Thursday by Robin Blomdin! His PhD research was about determining the size of glaciers and the timing of their expansions and retreats during the last 100 thousand years in Central Asia. Through The Valleys is an independent 47-minute feature documentary.
