The GCSE Maths curriculum needs less geometry and more statistics. The average person is never going to need to work out the cosine of an angle in their adult life, but they *do* need to know how to identify when data from companies/politicians/etc is misleading.

Law schools spend too much time teaching students how courts should work and too little time teaching them how courts actually work.

"The purpose of the system of Attorney General's References is the avoidance of gross error, the allaying of widespread concern at what may appear to be an unduly lenient sentence, and the preservation of public confidence in cases where a judge appears to have departed to a substantial extent from the norms of sentencing generally applied by the courts in cases of a particular type. We fear that the Solicitor General may have lost sight of these principles in this case." crimeline.co.uk/griffiths-da…

If you believe in fate, here lies the person to answer the question: how can #DrWho saved (again)? An icon. “We are gray. We stand between the darkness and the light.”
A (relatively) quick note to respond to the (much appreciated) scores of (very nice) notes online regarding today's news about Doctor Who. My interest and record is well-established; the only real question I think the BBC would (very fairly) ask is: would British fans be open --

If my timeline could refrain from showing an AI photo of Nigel Farage decking someone on Question Time every 4-6 posts, I’d really appreciate it.

Being a lawyer is realizing most people don’t want the legal answer. They want legal-sounding approval for what they already believe.

Am getting a bit cheesed off about the term “two tier justice” just seeming to become an accepted concept with no explanation/pushback from some. Summary justice is system designed for speed. Even Wikipedia tells of this:

When you wonder why large scale public disorder seems to get court quickly it’s due to the deterrent factor to dampen down further unrest by quick arrests & usually down to the type of offence.. normally on a guilty plea.

Only 23% of England is covered by assertive outreach services for people with severe mental illness in the community - these evidence based teams have been decimated over the past 2 decades. I spoke with @nuwandiss who helps run one of the last remaining teams in Leeds
There have been 570 mental health homicides in the past 30 years - in almost every case the perpertrator was known to services, was not taking meds and there were failures of risk assessments, communication, and discharge planning.
