you read Machiavelli and books like that to spot tricks when they're against you, not to practice them. Only incompetent, stupid people rely on such tactics. They may give a small, cheap satisfaction, but they fail with wise people. Wise people see through cunning instantly and are gone the moment they do. Competent people hate cunning as soon as they detect it. You can only fool fools, and fools are good for nothing but wasting time and feeding your ego. Wise people are immune to them, and so you're actually getting nothing out of tricks except seducing stupid useless people. Don't take such power tactics too seriously. They are children's playbook for adults.
