15 months ago, @fordnation called an election 17 months early. He needed a mandate to deal with Trump! How’s that going? Without the early call, Ontario would be headed to the polls in 6 weeks and none of his secret agenda would in play. No Bill 33 No retroactive FOI changes No Bill 101 No Billy Bishop Airport appropriation No jet purchases No new plans to fill in part of the Toronto waterfront to build a new convention centre No ‘Protect Ontario’ ads that the Auditor General determines are partisan in nature and not public service announcements These are major developments in which the Ontario electorate was not consulted. The Premier acts unilaterally and expects a parade. Premier Ford had an election campaign to share his plans, debate the pros/cons and give voters an opportunity to decide. #onpoli #onted

19 years in education and I’ve seen more kids who would have been saved by a social worker or counselor than a cop.

This is an encouraging development. @PaulCalandra & the tyrant styled gov’t of @fordnation won’t be able to bully their way to a successful conclusion. These unions/federations will be putting the needs of students first. Big issues will to be class size & Spec Ed support staff. #onpoli #onted

This morning, a Toronto Police Officer, Constable Marc Pinizzotto, was killed in the line of duty. This tragedy follows the death of OPP Constable Tarun Bali on Tuesday. Canada mourns the loss of these brave officers who dedicated their lives to protecting their communities. My prayers are with their loved ones, their fellow officers, and their communities in this time of grief.

NEW: Ontario Premier Doug Ford’s approval rating falls to its lowest level since he first took office in 2018. The latest Angus Reid data shows a 10 point drop down to 21% approval. Ford also finds himself at the bottom of the list among fellow Premiers. #onpoli

Tensions ran high & frustrations were palpable at a TDSB parent budget meeting Tuesday night, where parents pressed for answers on hundreds of staff cuts and program reductions planned for this fall. But the Ford government-appointed TDSB Supervisor didn’t answer questions during the meeting & declined an interview with me afterward. Watch:

There were very little details. Not surprising as supervision has lead to dramatically less transparency & accountability. Trustee meetings are where the business of the school board is debated and thoroughly discussed. Parents/caregivers are intentionally being kept in the dark! Not to mention the media or public at large. End supervision now as Bill 101 gives the budget to the new CEO. There is no valid rationale for continued supervision at the TDSB. There are 8 trustee elections currently underway in which the candidates, donors, volunteers or mostly importantly the voters will not know if/when the winner in October will ever be sworn in. #onpoli #onted

Happening now outside TDSB headquarters: parents speak out against expected cuts to staff, programs & services next year. “Ford has money for a private jet, a luxury spa, a highway mega project & pay raises for himself and his fellow MPPs. It’s time for this government to choose public education over friends.” The board has justified the cuts, explaining 5,000 fewer students are expected to enrol next year.

It turns out that @TorontoStar is reporting what @fordnation & @PaulCalandra called new 💰💰 for classrooms isn’t all new money after verification has shown that a good portion will replace existing school budgeted expenses. I’m shocked the government would mislead the public. #onpoli #onted
This is big news for teachers & more importantly students in their respective classrooms. It was presented as new additional funding, which will be important to verify. This addresses a challenge that was created by years of Ministry underfunding. New💰💰for classrooms is great!

A 24-year-old Polish tennis player arrived in Paris last week ranked 114th in the world, with no sponsors, no guaranteed income, and no certainty she could even pay for her hotel room. She had to win three qualifying matches just to enter the French Open main draw. Prize money is only paid at the end of the tournament, so a Polish sports drink brand quietly stepped in and covered her hotel bill. Her name is Maja Chwalinska. And today, she plays in the French Open final. Before this tournament, she had won exactly one Grand Slam main draw match in her entire career. She had battled depression so severe that in 2021 she couldn't get out of bed. She underwent knee surgery in 2022. She spent years grinding through small tournaments across Europe just to stay afloat. Then she arrived in Paris, won three qualifiers, and kept winning. Zheng Qinwen. Elise Mertens. Maria Sakkari. Diana Shnaider. Nine straight matches. One set dropped. She is now the first qualifier in French Open history to reach the final. The last time a qualifier reached a Grand Slam final, it was Emma Raducanu at the 2021 US Open. Raducanu won. By simply making the final, Chwalinska has earned more prize money than her entire career combined. The runner-up cheque alone is $1.6 million. If she wins today, she takes home $3.25 million. One week ago she couldn't pay for her hotel room.

This is a great and well deserved way to pay tribute to Brian Mulroney. He was a passionate politician who dreamed big and then worked tirelessly to see them become a reality. My first political rally was a pancake breakfast in support of Mulroney’s 1984 win. Students will be inspired by his love of Canada, courage to dream big and the statesman he became. Upon his passing, it was great to learn that Mr. Mulroney was a nice man who had time for everyone, on either side of the aisle. I miss the days of respectful disagreement in these days of polarized politics. My love of politics began watching this passionate Canadian dream big and then build collaborations to try make them a reality.
My family and I are deeply honoured that a new school in Orléans will open this fall bearing my father’s name. With strong English and French programming, it reflects his lifelong belief that bilingualism strengthens Canada and helps bring communities together. He dedicated his life to that vision, while working to build a more sustainable and equitable world. We are grateful that future generations of students will carry this legacy as they learn and grow within its walls.

Grades 9–10 cut. Relocation announced. Zero community consultation. Heydon Park families deserve decisions made with them - not imposed on them. Tell me how this isn’t a plan to quietly erase a school where vulnerable students actually thrive. #SaveHeydonPark
BREAKING: The TDSB will force students of a special-needs high school to relocate to another, undisclosed school, as soon as next winter. It's the latest in a series of moves that have raised fears the board plans to close the school. #onted 1/ torontotoday.ca/local/educat…

Happy Election Day, Ontario! But Doug Ford called it a year and a half early because he knew last winter was his small window to retain majority power over the province. So. How are we feeling about this term? #onted #onpoli #ontario #dougford #forthepeople #protectontario
