Tysties are the latest in a series of very cool ringing experiences I’ve had this spring, by virtue of training on the beautiful coast of North Wales with some awesome ringers. Including Chough, Little Tern, Barn and Tawny Owls and a *lot* of Pied Flycatchers! #lucky
Bingo! Another Black Guillemot using a nestbox. 2nd time ever in Wales. 4 Chicks and 3 adults ringed. @BTO_Cymru @_BTO @Macgregor_Cal @cofnod @HannahHereward #nestboxes #seabirds #ringing #tysties

The biggest grant win of my career to date announced yesterday! If you’re interested in improving the way we record raptors in Wales - particularly the common/widespread species that current surveys struggle to capture - we look forward to working with you! @BTO_Cymru

Striking that none of these palettes is remotely contrived, yet the majority are colourblind-friendly. Did the great artists understand that certain colour combinations impeded people's interpretation of their work [in a way that many academics don't, ahem]?
✨✨ New Package ✨✨ Happy to announce that I am soft launching another R color palette package, {MoMAColors} today! Currently has 35 palettes based around artwork at @MuseumModernArt. Download Instruction and Palettes here: github.com/BlakeRMills/MoMAC… #r4ds #dataviz #rstats

#digTheMountain [NEW ALBUM OUT THIS FRIDAY] has provided us the opportunity to evolve the way our physical records are manufactured and supplied. Polyvinyl chloride doesn’t have to be fresh for the sound quality to be just as good; you can make it from recycled other plastics.

Hard to think of any other individual tree whose felling would make me feel so sad. These photos from our visit in April 2017, just two days after submitting my PhD thesis at @UniofNewcastle
northumberlandnationalpark.o… Northumberland National Park Authority can confirm that sadly, the famous tree at Sycamore Gap has come down over night. We have reason to believe it has been deliberately felled. Full statement via link below:

Finally booked mine and @lynseyrharper's honeymoon - 10 months after the wedding, but never too late, right? Looking forward to two weeks in Botswana next June, and very excited to (hopefully) see some of these iconic species outside of captivity for the first time!

Hemlock is only poisonous when ingested, something a child is v unlikely to do as it tastes awful. Hemlock is a beaut plant & food source for insects. Imagine if instead of killing nature this was used as an opportunity to *teach* kids about wild plants. bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-su…

I’ve been keeping a secret. As we are beyond the solstice and tip toeing back towards darkness, it’s time to set it free. I have written a book - All Through The Night - about why our lives depend on darkness ✨ It will be available this September thanks to @HarperNorthUK

‘We are all born in the darkness, moulded in it, and it is into the darkness that we will all return … But from the moment we are pushed into the bright light of day, we learn to fear the dark, to avoid it, to destroy it.’ Perfect late night reading @DaniDarkSkies

Two years ago I left academia because I wanted to work in an environment with more direct impact on conservation. I have certainly found that in my role at @BTO_Cymru, and I'm feeling doubly excited about the future under our new strategy!
