It was an honour to be a part of the closing panel at #SAPLING2026 (South Asian Policy Leadership for Improved Nutrition and Growth) in Ahmedabad on 10 June 2026 - a high-level policy dialogue co-hosted by the World Bank Group and the Union Ministry of Food Processing Industries of India. I emphasised that coordination requires trust, and trust requires honesty about what hasn't worked. #SriLanka learned this the hard way. Our 2021 shift to organic farming showed that transformation without transition support fails producers. Value addition in tea, coconut, spices and processed foods shows what is possible, but no economy in our region should have to go it alone. Here's to hoping we move from diagnosis to action.

As I prepare to return to #Ahmedabad , I find myself reflecting on my previous visit to #Gujarat in November 2025. From discussions with the Hon'ble Chief Minister Shri Bhupendrabhai Patel and engagements with the Gujarat Chamber of Commerce & Industry (GCCI) - including the signing of an MoU between GCCI and the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce - to visits to Mundra Port, GIFT City and the Khavda Renewable Energy Park, I was struck by Gujarat's remarkable blend of entrepreneurship, infrastructure and innovation. The experience offered valuable insights into how trade, connectivity, finance and sustainability can work together to drive growth.
